Yes, please Kerouac2. I might even do my first batch properly now I know the tricks, and post them in lieu of the current ones. A couple of pics of my souvenir from there. It is a rice paper moulding of a part of a wall frieze showing King of Lanna (North Thailand) in battle with Khmer King. The thick paper retains the image and when dry the images have a swipe of dye over the top. To get the size, that is a standard Penguin paperback top left of first pic.     I am still planning to build up the mould with stuffing and have it mounted in a box frame. |

Thanks for combining your threads, Kerouac. I think that made for a nice overview of the temples and was helpful to have the threads all in one place. It seems Questa was there in 1999. Is that correct, Questa? Kerouac, in what years did you take your photos?

htmb Late December 1999. I flew out from Siem Reap on 30th Dec because I did not want to be A) in a world "hot spot" or
B) in flight to Bangkok when the "Y2K" bug hit the world and all the aircraft would fall out of the skies, ending all civilization as we know it!

My husband and I, with the little one in tow, are going there in April. I'm so, so excited. I just perused all of these stunning photos. I can hardly believe I'm actually going to be at those places in a few months.

The temples are eternal. The prices probably are not. After trips riding on the back of a motorcycle for $4 a day, on my last trip with a friend we decided on the ultimate splurge and got a car and driver for $20 a day.
I would be surprised if all such prices have not at least tripled since then. And they would still be a fabulous bargain.

From what I understand, the going rate is $20/day for a tuk tuk, $30/day for a car and driver to do the standard tours. Not bad at all. It's extra to go to the far-flung temples, though. Our motorcycle days are over, alas. At least until the baby is old enough to drive herself so I can ride with NYCboy. I am not a skilled driver.  |

The "far flung" temple that costs extra is Bantay Sray. Usually by the time you go out there you have already reached temple overload (and this one is small) but the ride is nice.

Htmb, just seven days. I wish it were longer. Little Nycbaby will get to practice her walking in Cambodia.  She'll still be a good age for traveling though, and not too old to carry in a pack or a sling. |

What is your exact itinerary in Southeast Asia? I've been revisiting this thread now and then to gaze at the beautiful pictures, but I somehow missed this question. Sorry about that. Our trip is only a week long, unfortunately. We'll be spending the whole time in Siem Reap, except for a day trip to the town Battambang. |

That's a good period of time to appreciate Angkor and even to decompress a bit from "temple overload," not to mention recovering from the heat, since the hottest month of the year there is April. Normally, the guides will plan for you to make some sunrise visits when the temperature is still very mild. It takes a bit of an effort when you are on holiday, but it's worth it.
