I've got an old, old friend in Charleston, I just remembered. Are you still there, Jack? Nope. Safe and sound in Paris.

I drove around for 5 days, and yes, that is how I usually spend my time on the North American continent. I do not want to remain in one place.

Nice thread, Kerouac! Your trip was similar to one we took in 1998, a year we did NOT make an international trip because I screwed up and forgot to reconfirm our frequent flyer reservations to Indonesia. Only you took much better pictures! (And we still haven't been to Indonesia.)
Two more factoids about Beaufort. (Parts of) Forrest Gump and The Big Chill were both filmed there...

Nice report and wonderful pictures, Kerouac. I'm glad you mentioned it. I have a friend who still owns a home in Charleston, and I often wish he would move back so I could go visit. . Now that I know Charleston is where my dad shipped in and out during WWII, maybe I should seriously consider making a trip. I have enjoyed reading all of Pat Conroy's books, but especially appreciated Beach Music, which is partially set in Charleston. I've always assumed Conroy captures the flavor of the area in his books. It's nice to also have some visuals from you trip.
