Sometimes my image of the States is a blur of suburban franchise shopping districts ringed by the same green lawns and wide driveways. This is untrue and unfair, as there are huge stretches of the US true to their history and respectful of their surroundings. This is well illustrated by this look at eastern Montana, a place I've never been. I hope Kimby can expound on the attractions of this beautiful land. In the meantime, this look at the beauty of Montana is expanded by Kerouac's views of other parts of the state.

Bixa:
You are subject to some stereotypes of the U. S. There are so many beautiful places that are in the U. S., especially in the West. Kirk and I almost lived in Billings, Montana and we have a next door neighbor who is from Kalispell, MT and her Mom and Dad live still live there. When we were first married, we lived in Boise, Idaho which is a beautiful state. We moved to Portland, Oregon and that was magnificent. We lived one hour from Mt. Hood, the Oregon Coast, and couple of hours from Bend, Oregon and a 3 1/2 hour drive from Seattle.
