Thanks for posting all the pictures and details. We are currently living in Zurich, so not too far from where the photos were taken. I'll have to map it out and visit some of those spots. Looks beautiful. I agree with one post, Switzerland is very clean.

Wonderful to hear from you Run4it. It would be interesting to hear your impressions of the country as a non-native resident.

I quite enjoyed these photos! We have been to these areas of Switzerland, but now plan to. The times we have been to Switzerland we stayed in the B.O.(Lauterbrunnen), Ticino (Lugano) and Basel. Has to be the most beautiful country we have been to so far. My husband was raised in France until the age of 9, and spoke fluent french and german but once they moved to Canada the teachers told his parents to use only English at home so it would benefit him in school, hence, he lost the french and german. However, when we travel in Switzerland/Germany/Austria, his german comes back to him fairly quickly, enough to fool the locals some times.

Just to say that I shall be returning to Switzerland this summer. I shall try and find new subjects to photograph

Oh, good! I haven't made it back to Switzerland for a few years now, and I miss it.

I am so lucky that a close friend is living there and I have an open invitation.

I have an open invitation, too, but since it is to Zürich, I am less drawn there than if it were Lausanne, Lucerne or Montreux...

I have revived this thread so that anyone who has been to Switzerland since 2013 may be able to give me some pointers. My husband and I are taking a semi-organised tour on 12th Sept next year for 8 days. We do have FREE time so I want to make the most of it.
Our Tour is called The Jungfrau Express. As I did this year with the same company when going down to South Western France, we will meet up with the Eurostar in Paris. The group departs from London, but we will be in Paris anyway. We take the train to Strasbourg or Metz - (not sure yet which one)and spend the night. Next day it's a train to Wilderswil for 6 nights.
The first excursion on day 3 is to Interlaken for a free day. Next day it's the Schynige Platte railway. Then comes another day at our own leisure. They suggest with our Swiss Card for 50% off fares, we visit Lake Lucerne. Day 6 is a journey on the Jungfrau Express and all it entails. Next day we travel to Interlaken and the Harder Kulm funicular railway to the top. Deaparture day is a train via Interlaken to Geneva. Here everyone gets taken back to Paris on the TGV but we will be going to Munich and have a flight back to SA on 21st Sept.
If there is anything we can squeeze in I'd like to know about it.

I suggest you look on the Thorn Tree forum. There are several posters living in Switzerland who give lots of information.

Thanks for that advice bjd - I will spend the afternoon finding out stuff. I have paid the required deposit on the trip so there's no going back....especially as I was at the Travel Agent this morning paying for our my air ticket on the buy one get one free scheme I joined with American Express Card Division. I also paid half price for my business class seat as it was one of a few discounted seats on offer.

I have been in contact with the Tour Company and our particular group are over-nighting in Metz before going on to Wilderswil in Switzerland. This is a nice surprise as the other group are going to Strasbourg ( which I have passed through several times on my way to Paris).
I have a problem trying to avoid too many train changes from Interlaken ( 5 min.from Wilderswil by train) to Munich. Our tour ends on morning of 19th and our flight leaves night of 21st. Do we bite the bullet and spend the day chugging along happily station hopping or try to get to an airport and fly to Munich. I would dearly love to visit Neuschwanstein Castle on 20th but don't see much room for much else even on the day we fly home. I need help and advice!
