Switzerland I live in a wide valley that was formed by a glacier. A big beautiful river runs through it. In this valley (between Thun and Bern, 30km long) there are several bigger and smaller villages, the one I live in has a population of about 3500 people. I live on an altitude of about 550m and when the weather is clear I have a nice view of the Swiss Alps from my bedroom window. The village is surrouned by agriculture and some forests. It is very green (well not at the moment) I live in a small double storey town house. There are 6 rows of townhouses and from far away it looks like rabbit cages. But inside the houses are very cosy. It is all made by wood. We have a small back yard where we spend our summer evenings, chatting and drinking wine with our neighbours. I work in Bern, which is about 14km away. I go to work by train, the train station is 4 minutes walk away from our house. The trains run every 30 minutes. Bern with Aare river

That's funny, Happy ~~ I had envisioned you in that kind of setting! It sounds beautiful. Do you have family nearby?

Yes, I grew up in the neighbour town, my parents still live there. My sister lives about 16km away. My brother though is on the other side of the mountains, in the sunny south, a few hours drive away.

I love the way they incorporated the wider countryside into the private spaces behind the houses.

It's nice to see where you live, Happy. You're so lucky to be able to see the high mountains.

Yes, that's true ! I couldn't live right in the mountains though but seeing them from a distance and being able to get to them within less than an hour is definitely a privilege.

I would love to live in sight of mountains, having grown up on a flat coast with totally flat water, not even any waves.

If I walk up the hill that starts near my house, on a nice day I can see the Pyrenees. However, local lore says that if they are visible in the summer, it means that it will rain.

I think it's Potatoes in the first picture Casimira. I am not sure what grows in the second picture, it might be young corn.

By the way, the track you can see in the picture, I haven't been able to see it for more than 3 months as it has been covered with snow and ice since end of November. The pictures were taken last May.

The fields look very nice. Do many people walk there or mostly farmers?

Oh many people walk there. Those sort of tracks are very popular amongst joggers, bike riders and people who just want to go for a walk.

You seem to have chosen well! A house you love in a small village, yet so close to Berne...a beautiful shot. I like your yards and small is good, less hard labour! It's very welcoming and speaks of many great meals and drinks with friends. I like the stove and the red wheelbarrow with its blue pot of roses...lovely. Are those cages?

I like the backyard. I am wondering about the cages also. Rabbits? Fowl?

Thank you jazz. It is a very cosy little place. There are two bunnies living in the cage. I'll go searching for piccies again

Bunnies! I would love to see them. This brings back one of my earliest memories. When I was in kindergarten, we had a pet rabbit at school. The big treat was to have a turn and take the bunny out at recess...He was warmly wrapped in a blanket and I thought it was thrilling.
