Oh god, if only that industry would move out of the city! It is such a pain when you work in an area completely surrounded by it. We were, however, amused the day that Catherine Deneuve got her purse snatched right in front of the office.

I find it interesting that the speaker on the video talks about the coutooouer reflecting Parisian spirit and French culture, but on the street you only see women dressed in black.
So where you work you see women with huge red lips and hubcaps on their heads, Kerouac?

The only thing I've ever been able to figure out about couture is that it's a rarefied art form, only bits of which filter into real life. Every year there are breathless reports of what "we're seeing this season", but as bjd points out, nothing really changes on the street. I suppose certain cuts become influential in the regular clothing industry and very expensive formal dress might reflect the new season, but otherwise change is pretty slow, thank goodness.
Also, the models are so painfully thin it's hard to imagine how the clothing would look on any woman of ordinary slenderness.

We actually do see some Lebanese matrons parading around avenue George V wearing those kinds of outfits, designed for women 25 years younger.
