I recently spent a day at Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth. Gunwharf Quay is a new development overlooking Portsmouth harbour. It is given over to shops and restaurants. I was reluctant to go there, given that I don't like shopping centres, but having been persuaded, I enjoyed my day. Portsmouth is one of the main ports on the south coast of England. Its Historic Dockyard is well known. Here we have HMS Victory - Lord Horatio Nelson's flagship that fought at the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Warrior (1860), the first iron-hulled armoured warship and the 16century Mary Rose (King Henry V111's favourite battleship). However I didn't go round these ships - I went shopping instead. Here are some harbour views:

So interesting to see how this place, so soaked in history, looks so vital and modern! The spinnaker tower is very clever. What is its function? Um, what did you buy?

That's very nice, Spindrift. I hope that lots of people will post of few pictures of where they go and what they see. That is one of the main reasons that this site exists.

Good. I don't know the function of the Spinnaker Tower other than it's possible to go up in a lift and view from the top (closed when I was there).

I'd like to visit sometime. Is it possible to go on board the Victory?
