Pont de Crimée Bassin de la Villette is still one of our favorite areas to visit while in Paris. The view from the pedestrian bridge always makes us pause and reflect for a minute.

Exquisite photographs, 6Lucky.
I'm intrigued by the workings of the bridge. The pedestrian bridge was made that high so boats could pass through, correct? And is the vehicle bridge still a drawbridge? The red & white pole on the right would be the barrier, I think.

Terrific 6Lucky! I sooooo badly wanted to go over that bridge but after walking too much further on, I just didn't have it in my legs to double back!! Thank you so much for the pics

Lovely photos 6lucky - I am puzzled about where the cyclist will cross?

And is the vehicle bridge still a drawbridge? The red & white pole on the right would be the barrier, I think. I believe that is correct. The red and white vertical pole on the left lowers to become a barricade similar to rail crossings. There are sidewalks on both sides of the part of the bridge that elevates. I believe it is a one-way street though so the cyclist would have to ride against traffic across the bridge either on the road or on the sidewalk. If you look at the picture closely you can see where the bicycle path makes a sharp right perpendicular to to the road before the bridge.

You can even see it in the raised position in my Canal Saint Martin thread.

Lovely photos 6lucky - I am puzzled about where the cyclist will cross? Cyclists are now allowed to ride counterflow in most small streets.

the famous Saint Bénazet bridge ("pont d'Avignon") at dusk What a stunning picture! Did you make it to the festival this year? I have never seen it raised. I have seen quite a few bicyclists ride counter flow though across it. The fellow with the safety vest will probably follow the rules. The kids going to the hostel on the other side not so much.

Here is the strange lifting mechanism on Glamis Road in Wapping East London. This gave entrance to Shadwell Basin when it was part of London Docks.

That picture has the same dreamy effect on me as a distant train whistle -- the longing for faraway places. Really nice.
