Love Vera Lynn.
The first pop song that caught my ear was Singing the Blues by Guy Mitchell followed by Peggy Sue by Buddy Holly.
The first record I bought was Purple People Eater by Sheb Wooley then Hoots Mon by Lord Rockingham’s XI.

Hope you're happy, Cheery -- started watching Country Joe and had to stop because it was making me cry. I have on makeup! I'm going out! Must repress feelings!

Heat Wave is an appropriate song now for much of the world:
Martha and the Vandellas also did the original Dancing in the streets, which has been taken up by the Stones and many other musicians.
I fell asleep/passed out for a bit not long ago, due to the heat. Don't worry; I'm hydrated.

OMG, my vision of Dionne Warwick is how she looked in the 1960's when she was trying to find her way to San José.

I used to have LPs by Dionne Warwick. She was just great. I don't know whether she was popular in France, where they were listening to crap like Johnny Halliday.

Actually, France had a whole bunch of black American singers and musicians who had fled their country of origin. One of the most popular when I was living with my grandparents was Nancy Holloway.
Josephine Baker had led the way long before.

One of my favourites too K2 . I also love Brothers in Arms Bjd. Mark Knopfler supports a charity close to my heart - Saving the Waterburg Rhinos.
Simply Red ~ For Your Babies such a tune and very personal to me in many many ways

I went through all four pages to make sure that this had not already been posted (how is that possible?) but also there have been so many YouTube links broken over time that you just never know…

Awwww! Yes, amazing that it hasn't been posted already. Now I'm fighting the impulse to flood this thread with James Taylor!
