How do you deal with it when your partner/roommate doesn't like a food that you love (or vice versa)? And what are the foods you disagree on?
My husband hates peas, brussel sprouts and lamb, three things I love.
I make peas very rarely, often in a mixed vegetable blend, so he can pick out what he feels like eating. Or I make mashed potatoes the same meal, so he can smoosh them together, since part of his dislike MUST be based on how hard peas are to keep on your fork!
Brussel sprouts I make when I feel like it, and try to season them in an interesting way. He tolerates them but doesn't eat many, so I get lots of leftovers for myself. (He does like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, so I don't know why he dislikes sprouts so.)
Lamb, I order in restaurants, especially when travelling in countries that specialize in lamb. I made lamb chops at home once and concluded it wasn't worth the expense and effort to try to serve something he dislikes so much.

I always say that for fourteen years I cooked six meals a day. That's an exaggeration of course, but I was married to someone with completely different food tastes from mine. His style of eating was the heavy meat, richly prepared potatoes, and vegetables only admissible with cheese sauce school. There's no way I could eat like that all the time, so I just made sure we both had stuff we liked to eat. This may sound like too much work, but it saved my sanity since I do hate a picky adult and resent that the man of the house so often dictates what will be eaten in said house.

Luckily we are both greedy and eat pretty much anything.
He used to class eggs and cheese as vegetables. After many years of arguments in the fruit and veg section of the supermarket he now eats them happily, although if it was down to him we would live on pizza and...erm pizza.
The only thing he isn't keen on is pasta but its a quick dinner when we are late in from work so we usually have it once a week.
Kimby, today I discovered a vegetarian Thai place near my work and I had an amazing brussell sprout and prawn salad from there today. Sounds odd but it was goooooooooood stuff.

Since Mrs Faz threrw in her lot with me eleven years ago I have encouraged her to widen her horizons. She has thived on this. But there are some things she has tried with me and really doesn't like: oysters and black pudding are two that come to mind. So when she goes on her own to England for family visits I make certain I eat the things she doesn't like.

Mrchoc isn't very keen on brussel sprouts, cous cous, pea and ham soup or anything to do with truffles which he says tastes like dirt but will eat them all if cooked for him.
I deal with it by not making them too often.
Geeky, if you are reading this I nibbled some edam today and now I can say I agree with your thoughts on it. Wouldn't bother with it again, so many more interesting cheeses to be had.
The mentioning of cous cous reminded me.

My husband likes nearly everything. I am the picky one. He can eat anything he likes though, as long as he cooks it himself. He keeps buying capsicum, which I don't like, and then usually forgets about it. I have to remind him to cook and eat it.

My girlfriend doesn't eat beef and certain other meats. So I cook and eat it alone. OTOH she likes soups with tamarind, which I don't like. So she makes them when I'm eating out. But otherwise we pretty much agree on everything. She even started eating lamb last year which she previously wouldn't touch.

There were many things that Zonker did not eat when we first me, I have just slowly introduced different foods prepared in different ways, and now he eats almost anything. There were many basics that he did not eat and I just found cooking too restrictive. The things he does not eat now, are things I can work around. I still make the things that I like though I just make sure that there is enough of what he would eat.

Pasta is one we disagree on. I eat it, but I am not a big fan. He really likes stuff like gnocchi and ravioli. Sometimes when he cooks, he will make pasta. I usually serve myself just a small portion of the pasta and pile on a bunch of the sauce.
He doesn't like some veggies I like such as cauliflower and spinach.
