Why is it that we seem to repeat certain behaviors over and over and over again, despite knowing that the outcome/result will make us unhappy and in some cases downright miserable. Even when we have the intelligence and instinctual expertise to change these behaviors,we keep going back to for more. I can pinpoint half a dozen behaviors of mine that fit into this particular pathos. And,I'm real good at helping others to recognize and make suggestions to help change, but, when it comes to myself...

I think it has to do with being optimistic. We think that things might be different next time.
There is a current (depressing) movie out called "8 fois debout" ("8 times standing") based on an expression "7 times fallen, 8 times standing." This is supposed to mean that you should always persist after failure, but as one person in the movie says, "it sounds more like somebody who fails most of the time."

Perhaps one should try and identify the reason WHY someone persists in repetitive behaviour and it might not be the obvious one....lateral thinking is the clue here - something for amateur pyschologists to ponder!

I read about this movie,I would like to see it. I love the maxim, had never heard it before. Curious take on the optimism. I will ponder on this. I think the ability for people to identify these behaviors indicates insight and a willingness to change said behaviors. One can't change until they recognize there's a problem.
