Okay, so I've planted the pumpkin seeds in this 'patch'. I'm hoping some will take. I mixed compost from my compost bins in with the sand. Fingers crossed they will appear! ;D Hopefully I can manage to keep the slugs away. I've been taking in all the hints about what to do about he slugs, and will put them in practice as soon as the little baby plants appear. I've also planted some of the seeds in a large pot with just peat, just incase these don't take. It will be interesting to see if it's true that plants can grow in (mostly) sand...

I like pumpkin pie, which was the only way I ever ate pumpkin when I was living in the United States. It was when I moved to Europe that I discovered pumpkin soup (pumpkin pie is totally unknown in France and probably most other countries in Europe).
Even though this isn't the food branch, does anybody have any other uses for pumpkin (besides jack o'lanterns) -- I certainly can't think of any.
Are you going to keep posting pictures of the progress of your plants here, Deyana?

I certainly will keep on posting the latest pics of how they grow. I'm just hoping they do grow. You can tell I don't have much confidence in my plant growing techniques. But everyone keeps telling me just how easy it is to grow pumpkins, so I thought I'd give it a go. What to do with them all? That's the question. I don't actually like the taste of pumpkins, although I will have pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream, but only in small doses. Jack o'lanterns are a good use for them. I may end up giving them away to friends or donating to them to a charity.

What variety of pumpkin are you growing deyana? I love the taste of pumpkin, personally. Its too bad I don't live closer to you. As for what to cook besides pies or soup... pumpkin bread comes to mind right away. But also roasted or grilled (peeled and cubed) pumpkin, or whole ones filled with a savory stuffing (like sausage and apple and onion, maybe) and baked like you would stuffed acorn squash. I've seen pumpkin chili too, but have never tried it.

I'm not sure what type it is., cristina. It did say Jack O'Lantern on the packet though. Last year I tried growing the giant variety, but the slugs got them all. If you lived near by you could have as much Pumpkin as you want! hmmm...roasted and grilled sound good, and stuffed with a savoury filling, I like the sound of that. Great ideas there. Thanks.

That's not a bad idea, K. I'm sure my mother must have a recipe or two for that.
