I ate six chocolate chip cookies. I was only going to eat three, but the package had been opened for a couple of weeks and the contents were just beginning to get stale, so I saw a need to finish them off immediately.

A disappointingly boring breakfast with the Retreaded Old Men's Group, at Buffet El Mandil, near Pátzcuaro. This was my second dull, boring breakfast at El Mandil, a restaurant which I like very much for afternoon comida. They did make me a nice omelet of rajas con queso. and, of course, the staff is very nice. But this is my last breakfast there.

I'm intrigued by the retreaded old men. As we age, whether men or women, we lose much of the cushioning under our feet. It would be cool if it could be retreaded!
I rarely comment on breakfast because I usually eat leftovers, but today that happened to be a (Spanish) tortilla made with leek and spinach inside a (Mexican) corn tortilla. And espresso, of course. As well as plenty of plain tap water.

My regular breakfast in Spain when I'm out doing stuff. There's a petrol station a little down the road from me that does a really good one, 1 Euro 20 for the media tostada con tomate and coffee. An extra 60 cent if you want an entera. The nearby town has a stall doing churros which the kids like a lot. Not really for me though. The thing is that around us we never get the little packages of olive oil. There is always a few bottles on the bar counter and the tomato is in a communal bowl that get topped up from time to time. Not the most hygienic for sure, but in a farming town you get what you get. IKEA and McDonalds even do this by the way.

I learned a new word! Here it's always "jugo" de naranja (or whatever fruit). Thanks, Amboseli. Is the tomato a kind of jam?

Sometimes the tomato is called 'confitura de tomate' on the menu. It's pretty plain tomato spread, IMO.
