I first encountered Sapporo back in the late '80's when I was in London. The can had a ring pull that not only took the whole of the top of the can off, but also folded in the sides,so it was basically like drinking out of a tin glass.
Shit beer though.

Ha! To be fair, I can't remember what it tsates like; but I DO remember the tin ......
I don't understand your beer vs wine comment, unless you mean that even if you had beer in the house, you wouldn't drink it, etc. etc. etc. .............

Funny, we just had some Fransizkaner Weissbier Dunkel this evening, very tasty. Those monks know their stuff. As far as very favorite overall, hard to say, it kind of depends on the mood.

This is so frustrating! I only have a chance to try different beers when I go back to the States. There are some good Mexican beers, but overwhelmingly on the side of light-bodied lagers. There was once supermarket that carried a couple of brands of stout, but it sold out so I don't even have that option any more.
What country do the first two beers in the OP come from?

Bixa - I guess the explosion of imported beers that has ocurred here has not reached Mexico yet. In only the last 3-4 years we suddenly have had access to a wide variety of imported beer plus some good microbrews that are entering the market.

Gringa, the explosion may have reached Mexico, but not Oaxaca. Twas ever thus.

I am not a beer connaisseur, but I do know that I definitely do not like weak light beers, from those American 'lite' beers to things like Tsingtao. Might as well drink water.

Caledonian Brewery's famous 80 shilling ale is the one for me.
I also love Sint Josef Tripel too because it reminds me of a great summer. Nice full bodied and strong beer it is too at aroung 7 or 8% abv.
When it comes to disco fizz I would go Becks or Stella

When I'm in Germany I drink Jever, preferably from a bottle, not the draft beer. In Cambodia Tiger is my beer of choice, ice cold. Anywhere else it'll be Pilsener Urquell or the Czech Budweiser if available. What's with gyro's monologue at the top?

But I agree with Jever; a lovely bier.

Oh, I've just noticed. Originally, there was a post from somebody saying they liked the Japanese beer Sapporo. For some odd reason, their first response and reply to my initial observations have now dissapeared. Odd.

You have to see this: www.biertower-zapfturm.de/. It's from an ad at the top of the page & is the frat-boy beer accessory for which every man secretly yearns. The page contains one of the most frustrating videos you will ever see. I mentally screamed "put some liquid in the damned tube!" all the way through it. I think the mug of beer is really one of those candles cleverly made to look like foodstuffs.

Yes, that's what I meant, gyro. We've got similar towers here, red ones for Anchor and blue ones for Tiger. Three litres cost 6 and 10USD respectively, not too bad, ey?

Based on today's exchange rates, that's good !
I recently had some Tiger for the first time in yeeeears, and was surprised at how much I liked it.

When went here www.lacerveceria.cl/restaurant/ on our vacation last September they had those towers. We didn't order them because it was like 3 liters, but the waiter looked at me when I was crazy when I ordered quite a large draft beer. I guess most women order the smaller sizes.

Here, I like an Otter or Old Speckled Hen. Belgian beers are delicious and I also am a fan of the Munchener (Germany) HB weissbier.
In Switzerland, there was this small chain of microbreweries doing some type of alsatian beers :
to choose from white, red, dark and a seasonal one if I am not mistaken. Perfect with a flammkueche (Alsatian pizza).

As a laydee (well sometimes at least), my favourite beers are:
Various Chinese beers which are actually rip-off German bers, especially Yanjing from Beijing, Hapi from Harbin and Krizer from Shandong province McEwans 80 which is a lovely thick molasses and ale type beverage Kriek, from Belgium which is a fruit based drink but don't let that put you off
Actually, my best beer experience was cycling down the Danube through Souther Bavaria where almost every village has its micro brewery. The best was Eastern Bavarian beer consumed at a lederhosen, fairground rise and brass band music local festival. It was sponsored by a beer called Irlbacher premium so I presume that's what it was. In fact, I've no idea what any of these beers are called, not because we were pissed all the time (we had to get those miles covered) but because I stole all the beer mats to give to a friend who collects them - so I don't have them anymore.

At first I thought you had to wear lederhosen to drink the beer.

I love beer me. My favourite as a girl was Green King's Abbot Ale which we would buy by the jug from The Sow and Pigs in Toddington. I went through a phase of drinking Newcastle Brown for a while...
Went on to drink the designer lagers...I still love Kingfisher lager (an Indian lager) vastly superior to its rival Cobra. Never been a huge fan of American beer although i used to quite like Budweiser (bottles not cans)
I have gone back to bitter in my senior years. The nicest ones I've had recently include beers from the Badger brewery (West Country I think)...their Otter beer is divine. There are always local beers to try so I usually sample what's on offer when we visit pubs around the country.
If I'm buying beer in a supermarket to take home it's generally bottled rather than cans, we finished a batch of Perroni Italian lager and some San Miguel lager recently. I had a few bottles of Hobgoblin, Old Peculiar, Speckled Hen and Bishops Finger but they've all gone now...hic...
