I'm afraid that only the official score counts, not the real one.

A draw 0-0 for England and Algeria.
the Algerian goalkeeper was fantastic (as was the English one). Both sides played well.

I missed the US-Slovenia game as I was still sleeping when it was played. But I saw the results before I went to work today.
I haven't been able to see any replays, just one interview with Bradley, which was professional and thus, said nothing.
WTF happened with the disallowed goal? Was it justified (for those who watched the game)?

My soccer advisor tells me that it should have been allowed.
England played badly last night and really should have taken the opportunity to take a good lead in the standings.
Turning out to be an interesting World Cup, even for those of us that don't know the game that well.

1. Yes, France is the absolute disgrace of this World Cup -- the worst coach and the worst team, at least in terms of spirit and cohesion, if not talent. Nevertheless, I imagine that Anelka's insult was justified, even if he should have never said it out loud.
2. The US goal absolutely should have been allowed. Everybody agrees that the referee clearly had his own agenda, but that has always been part of football, which refuses video verification so far.
3. I watched the Japan-Netherlands game this afternoon and regretted that Japan lost. I'm not sure why, but I have never supported the Netherlands in football, as much as I like the country in other ways.

And gli Azzuri had to make do with a tie against New Zealand, far better known as a rugby power... Very quiet here in La Petite Italie (there are also a lot of people of different Latin American origins, and of course standard issue Québecois, many of whom supported France). Italy really didn't play very well. Meh.
Funny about whom one supports. I also overall have positive thoughts about the Netherlands (though the native cuisine is bleh) but have never really followed their side.
This afternoon Brazil vs Côte d'Ivoire. Nothing against Brazil, but I would like to see an African side get through.

Yes, I would love for Côte d'Ivoire to do well

75% of the French a hoping that France will lose to South Africa tomorrow. Enough is enough! However, I read that the English team is having just about the same problems as the French team and needs to be put out of its misery also.

It would be great if there were a a score like there just was for Portugal-North Korea. 7-0. It's a shame though that the North Korean team will probably be thrown in prison and then executed when they get home.
Ha ha, yesterday the French training shirts were covered with the names of sponsors. Today they were blank!

So, Spain got its act together today and played much better. Except for Villa's (easy) missed penalty kick, I thought it was well played. I only got to watch the 2nd half, over lunch (which included multiple shots of Piqué spitting blood, on a large screen, which did not compliment my lunch. ). The first half was a no-video gamecast from work. So I can only assume good play from the commentators. I'm not taking sides tomorrow for France vs. South Africa. I think France has behaved horribly, but I think much of the responsibility lies on Domenech. If I was Queen of whatever body could do it, I would fire his butt today. I would like to see South Africa advance in this cup, especially as host nation. But a part of me would also like to see France redeem themselves and show good sportsmanship.

Go Bafana! The planet must be purged of the French team.

My whole neighbourhood is quiet except for the occasional screech by one of the neighbours. Looks like France shouldn't even come back for the second half. Looks like Rama Yade will have the last laugh after all.

Yes, I have been suggesting to my colleagues that we should storm the Ministry of Sports, because I'm sure that she is tied up with tape over her mouth in one of the basements.

Oh shit. It seems that even though Bafana Bafana won this match, the score is not enough to let them through. Bittersweet. I'm sure South Africans will be celebrating anyway though.

Well, we are still proud, but of course, there was a glimmer of hope.
At least we sent the French home too!

Eleven days to go until most of the world stops to watch this for a month. Carrefour is considered not to be very supportive of the French team, because they have a super promo on giant flat screen televisions right now: "Your TV refunded 100% if France wins the final!" Well the execs at Carrefour breathed a collective sigh of relief tonight!

I was reading that some other brand did this in Italy four years ago. They did indeed buy insurance for it, and the insurance company had to pay a bundle.
Don't worry, Palesa. The World Cup is still a great festive event for the country, and now at least the pressure is off so everybody can sit back and just enjoy it.

K2, I think the general consensus is that we exited with our head held high and I think that people also feel that we are hosting a great event, national pride is at a high at the moment.
Spindrift, I guess one would imagine that England will win, but this World Cup is full of surprises.

I really do wish they were advancing. But nonetheless, South Africa is indeed hosting a great event. This is a wonderful cup so far. Others: Spain or US. Not England. Sorry, Brits.

good one, k2!
Yay for today. My husband's country (England) and mine (US) both advance to the next round. I am actually more of an England supporter, but I am glad the US advanced. First, because they totally got screwed with that bad call against Slovenia. Second, because it sure is helping Americans get into the game. Even my mom watched the game today!
