Well, Renee Zellweger's slightly slaty sky blue dress looked great, although I agree with Bjd about those thigh-high slits being a bit much. When I say pastel, I'm referring to the Jordan almond, rather powdery colors that were way too prevalent in my early adolescence.

Jeezums, it seems like there's an awards ceremony every week or so.
Far too many for me to keep up with and I don't know who the hell half these people are.
I used to enjoy watching the Oscars with some girlfriends mainly so we could "rag" what all the different women (and, men to some degree) were wearing.
I guess I'm not only "out of the loop" and old but, really don't give a hoot.

Completely in agreement with you on #333, Kimby. After looking at that link and the SAG one, I'm planning to get in lots and lots of orange fabric for all my formal dress needs this season. And speaking of sag, none of those deep vee dresses look good. All of them look stupid and either accidentally or deliberately vulgar. I can't accept that applying enough surgical tape to ones tits to make them resemble weird molded desserts is a desirable fashion statement. Actually, depending on how those supposedly sexy plunging necklines are cut, they can make the breasts look mashed downward -- surely not the look the wearer was going for. Sorry, Casimira ~ I am deeply shallow and avidly look at and critique all of the ott red carpet creations!

Ha, Bixa. The word SAG immediately brought to mind the same thing as you.
I wonder why there is no middle ground between those flashy gowns and wearing men's style suits. And who writes the commentary? "J. Lo goes for a classy look..." No, JLo and classy do not belong in the same sentence.
In the first set of pics, Saoirse Ronan's dress is awful. I don't like orange as a colour but do think Laura Dern looks good and the dress is nice. Also like the look of Rita Moreno. Don't have a clue who most of the others are but am not impressed.
I don't know who Cynthia Erivo is but she sure wants to be noticed, both times.
Millie Bobby Brown is 15??!! Stupid name, stupid outfit.

Stupid name, stupid outfit. ~ Ha on the JLo comment, especially considering that particular dress is fairly tame for her. Laura Dern usually manages to look more "real" than many others on the red carpet. And as far as liking Rita Moreno's look -- just googled and she is 88 years old! re: Millie Bobby Brown -- yes, stupid name, but she appears to be a good little actress going by what I saw of her in the 1st season of Stranger Things. As far as looking older, Kate Winslet looked and carried herself like a woman while she was still just a teen, so for both of them that might just be a side effect of being born beautiful. But still! Dressing & presenting a mid-teen that way is just plain wrong. I pronounced on this a year ago & still don't think she is a grownup. It's particularly disgusting and hypocritical after all the outrage and hand-wringing over Jeffrey Epstein & his ilk. So ..... all the chatter about sexual exploitation & lots of moral outrage splashing around, yet Sadie Sink (15) and Millie Bobby Brown (13 -- 13!) are wearing mature black and, especially in Brown's case, clothes verging too closely into the "sexy cocktail dress" category. Note that we are not alone in our disapproval: news.yahoo.com/millie-bobby-brown-sag-awards-shamed-215538220.html

I don't know who half these people are.....agree that Nicole Kidman's black dress was lovely, and (more important imo) the style suited her. Quite like Sophie Turner's pink dress...but on the whole I find many of these dresses pretty ridiculous.

Nicole Kidman said that the dress was surprisingly really comfortable. (I’d be worried about it falling down and revealing too much, but apparently it was well engineered and fitted to her.)

Oh joy! Yes, absolutely agree with you about Kate's gown and that great, almost 1940s hairstyle. Even though I don't really like those all-cleavage-all-the-time dresses, I think Charlize Theron looks great. That thing Jessie Buckley has on is kind of silly, but she makes it work. Sorry, Scarlett Johansson, that confection looks both silly and vulgar. Renee Zellweger's dress is nice fabric but a dud. that thing Florence Pugh is wearing is hideous and makes her look deformed. Jodie Turner-Smith not only went for all-cleavage-all-the-time, but also for let's-smush-the-cupcakes. In that trio of black dresses, I can only approve Saoirse Ronan's. The other two are

Well, what to say? Kate Cambridge indeed looked pretty good, as usual. I don't like those dresses with the stiff tops, of which there were several. It looks as though the women can't breathe too much or move. If they do, the top will stay rigid.
Agree about the awful bright pink thing Florence Pugh is wearing. She could have stuck to the dress underneath if she had added about 30 cm to the hem. And yes, Scarlett Johanssan's feathery thing is rather awful.
I don't mind Renee Zwellwiger's dress, except that she looks as though she won't be able to raise her arms. And Kate FAhy should have worn a bow tie, then she would have looked even more like her husband.
And why bother showing the men in black tuxedos? They all look the same.

More photos here. www.cnn.com/2020/02/09/entertainment/gallery/2020-oscars-red-carpet-photos/index.htmlKristin Wiig’s dress must be a joke. It looks like some kind of pupating insect. And Rooney Mara, what? Too many bad gowns with mismatched uppers and lowers, wads of unnecessary distracting froufrou, and capes that obscure the lines of the dress. I like the simplicity of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s navy gown and Renee Zellwegger is rocking the one shoulder white gown.

I liked a couple of the dresses...Kaitlyn Dever's red number was gorgeous and I really liked Florence Pugh's teal layered dress. Scarlett's Johansson's dress was quite nice too... Absolutely agree, although I think Pugh's dress would have looked even better with the waist at the natural level. Maybe it's just the way she's standing. Agree about the jewelry!!! And, I loved Scarlett Johanson's gown. Yeah, I'll bet you scrutinized that jewelry! Totally agree about Scarlett's gown. She does wear it well. I wore black as soon as I could get away with it. I certainly was no older than 15 or 16. Beatnik black though, not temptress black. Don't agree. I wasn't nearly sophisticated enough at that age to even know that black clothing could be a message. And given a choice, I'll always go for temptress, sultry, etc. Random comments: I want to whip out my hair-cutting shears and whack off the back of Brad Pitt's hair. What's with the upholstery rope ties on some of these dresses? Natalie Portman looks like a cult leader & Sigourney Weaver has inherited Miz Ellen's portieres. Saoirse Ronan: Christ on a crutch -- what the hell?! My brain could explode trying to figure out the worst part of that dress. And she cut bangs! That was nice of Angelina Jolie to give Charlize Theron that old black thing from several Oscars ago and to show her how to stick her leg out of it. Kelly Marie Tran's black gown is quite beautiful. America Ferrara proves once again that if a woman wants to look like an absolute moron all she has to do is get pregnant, then walk around holding the pregnancy bulge. Such a thing with that age group! I see they let little Julia Butters pick out her dress all by herself. They shouldn't have. Regina King always looks fabulous!
