Most of them look pretty bad, in fact, Charlize Theron is one of the better ones. I guess Julie Gayet gets to be there because she is officially an actress, but that horrible dress, the black scarf and the two-tone shoes sticking out are awful.
Given the weather in Paris these days, they must have been awfully cold with bare legs and sandals on. Juliette Binoche, who I think is usually very attractive, should have loosened her hair a bit -- she looks like a guy. And wasn't Cécile de France told she was supposed to dress up? I can't see what she is wearing -- a miniskirt or shorts?
But I think the prize for worst-dressed goes to Marina Fois, if she is the one on the right in the picture. That is really awful.

Not much to love here. Lea Seydoux's apricot colored dress would be prettier without the windows on the sides. Tara Tointon's dress was striking, but would have been prettier had the embellishments continued down the skirt, without the legs peeping through the sheer fabric. And Dianna Agron wins for hair. The others didn't even try. Bed-heads and weekend casual abounded.

Kristen Stewart, vampire bride. How appropriate. Julie Gayet forgot to take off her bathrobe. Sonia Rolland's slim sparkly tunic and long skirt was pretty though it needed lining. Cécile Cassel's green wrap dress was missing a few pieces, though the top had promise. No winners for me here. They'd have done better buying off the rack.

Taylor Swift has a very mature sense of glamour for her age. Jhené Aiko #21 was striking in Alberta Ferretti, and WHAT was Madonna thinking?!

I still can't open the grammy award link but it sounds as though I'm not missing anything.
Edited to say I looked on another link and the only one who looks good is Annie Lenox. I don't know what Madonna was thinking.

One of the more prominent accessories this year seems to be a big bootie!

I think there is definite improvement this year compared to some previous years, except for a few. Too many to remember and comment on, but generally I think the simpler the better and Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow both looked really good.
I definitely don't like that bare leg sticking out of the dress style.

Didn't look at all of them but agree that simple is best.
Madonna was thinking about young men, simple.

Yes, the Oscar garb was much more elegant and tasteful than it has been in recent years.
I really don't have a problem with the leg exposure, if you have great legs, why not show a little?
I love., loved Julianne Moore's dress. I was shocked, rather miffed, at reading some idiots critique of it being on the "worst list".

I think the problem with the leg exposure is not the dress itself, which is often quite nice (as is the leg), but the cheesy way the women pose with one leg out as though they were selling something.

I think you are quite right K. And, I suspect that in some way they are selling something in that there is so much emphasis on the designers. Perhaps it's even obligatory for them to pose in a certain way.

Well, I think they have to stick their legs out just to show that the dress is slit like that.
I wonder whether the designers don't lend their dresses to get the publicity? Like the big jewellery makers do.

Of course the dresses are lent. None of the women would buy that stuff for just one night. Pity the men instead who are mostly dressed identically and probably have to buy their outfits (although it must be admitted that they get more use out of them if they go to multiple ceremonies).
The 'red carpet' reporters would not be able to announce the name of each and every designer of the dresses if they were not fed that information by the publicists ahead of time.

Speaking of the men (whom nobody notices, really), but I have to mention them again, I was wondering why they were so submissive to the dress code and about 95% of them were in tuxedos with bow ties. A courtesy to the women who get to be the peacocks of the evening? An I-don't-give-a-fuck complacency to tradition? A sense of economy since they can wear the same outfit year after year to every awards show?

Well, this guy's hat certainly lowers the tone a bit so the suit doesn't look quite so traditional. Men's suits don't change quite as often as women's styles, so no wonder men can go on looking the same for years. Unless you prefer them to look like that Williams at the Grammys in shorts?

I doubt she purchased this dress, though. Calvin Klein probably just hadn't picked it up yet.
How does a former slave afford a $150K gown? ;-)

Since 'representatives for Calvin Klein declined to comment,' it seems pretty clear to me that Calvin Klein owned the dress. Otherwise they would have said something like 'we'll be happy to give her a 10% discount if she wants to purchase another dress.'

Regarding male attire, I was reading reviews that said the Jared Leto was the one and only person who could get away with what he wore. I bet he didn't buy it either.

Watching the Tony Awards tonite. No red carpet, that I saw, anyway, but lots of gowns and costumes.
What was Cate Blanchette thinking? With her leather peekaboo patchwork puzzle? Or Cynthia Erivo with her tin foil-flounced frock?

Lupita embodies the common comment "She looked good in that dress, but she'd look good in a bin bag". Indeed she was discovered as a major star when playing a field slave.
And yes, she is stunning.

*sigh* I just looked at the dresses paraded at the Golden Globe awards. Most of the actresses seemed to think they were auditioning for parts in the 1930s Flash Gordon serials, although maybe the memo was garbled, as others thought they were there for the original Star Trek tv show. Keeping with the oldies theme, several showed up in 1960s prom dresses.

My god that is asinine and unfunny. Admittedly I only made it through 30 seconds. Hate his beard, too.
