Absolutely! I feel I was lucky in that my family moved a bunch because of my dad's job (US Air Force). Yes, we did have to move sometimes in the middle of the school year, but got to see and do many things that kids with so-called "roots" never get to do. Do your children see themselves as essentially German?

Here goes, I don't know if I put these snippets in order together (or how to do it) or is there a special place where they go. So far there is reply in "Ageing Parents" #2475 posted 29/12/202. Then comes "Highlighting Today" # 4130 which continues as # 2371.

Do your children see themselves as essentially German? They cherry pick from time to time and even though their major nationality is German of sorts, when they get frustrated with a stereotypical German thing like not crossing a deserted road until the pedestrian light is on green, or when they want to be a bit contrary with someone who asks, they'll say 'My father is from England', or 'My mother is from Slovenia', or 'I was born in Colombia' and drop references to maybe being Spanish and/or living in Egypt/Jordan etc etc. They have accentless and fluent German and English (apart from my lad who struggles a bit), can converse well in Spanish and I'm told are more or less accentless in that as well. Yes, they see themselves mainly as German as it is what they are best familiar with, but as they don't look German, maybe Mediterranean at best (even when they plaster the makeup on as they are wont to do, the daughters that is) they can be somewhat chimera like when they have a mind to be. It sure confuses the boys and gives the daughters endless hours of fun, especially when they are out together and are twins, which causes even more confusion. If asked flat out if they are German they will say they live in Germany..... but..... (add ending as necessary).

Questa you had quite a difficult start in life. Always been wondering if people who have a painful early life evolve jnto great people as a result. Or just because they are so by birth so to speak. Mark some very good friend of mine adopted 3 ukrainians. Adoption was anonymous. He put down money in ghe tabke and as a result could copy the entire files of adoption. Should one if them kids ask who are the parents they will get the info. I am actually surprised at the number of people who have adopted. A worker i worked with adopted 7 Vietnamese. When they were grown he adopted 6 Koreans. Must be quite a barbecue when they all meet !!!

Btw my eldest was 22 yesterday. I know she should have stayed alone but we had a meal together. It is for me always fantastic to see the 3 sisters laughing together.

they would have a wealth of experience few kids would have and build their characters in a different way than purely schooling would. There is a painting hanging in the foyer of our Adult Learning Centre. It carries a quotation I can't find now but it was from a highly educated famous woman talking of her daughter. "I wanted her to have a good education so I kept her away from school"

Should you want to combine all these separate essays into one to post somewhere, I have copied and pasted into Notes on my phone, and could send to you. (I wouldn’t presume to post it for you.) It feels like it could be a novel, with a little fleshing out... Thanks for sharing your back story.

Many thanks, Kimby, Would that be the same as me doing a cut and paste to 'Open office writer' I have on my windows 10.? I could just add other pieces to the tale as I have time, then post each chapter as it is done.
Strangely enough, after years of thinking and being told, "you should write a book" I can actually see how I could do it now. As it is when I am writing anecdotes for AnyPort I have the people here in my mind as I write...and you lot don't scare me, yet! Well, K2 just might, but I am not thinking of publishing, just enjoying the ride.
**Off to do a grease and oil change on my computer, check the tyre pressures etc. Back soon.**

I’m looking forward to the chapters as they start coming out on Any Port.
Will you start a new thread?

Your quest for family knowledge has been the stuff of novels, Htmb. I really admire you for stepping into that particular unknown.
