And it was so photogenic. I say bullshit.

It may have make for good “optics,” but publicly huddling together, openly flaunting current rules for gatherings, would have been a major insult to all UK families who have lost loved ones during the pandemic.

Oh, I'm not saying that anybody should haved huddled, but there was nothing preventing her from being in a pew in front rather than off to the side.
I think that any of us who knew our grandmothers will remember how good old ladies (and some old men) are at playing to the crowd for maximum sympathy. QE2 has had an entire life to perfect her skills.

As per the seating plan, Mrs Queen wasn't by herself as such. She had to distance from the nearest person, Prince Andrew, due to distancing rules but you've been suckered by the (deliberate) camera angle insinuating she was all by herself and a long way away from everyone else. Not so. If anything, young Prince Under The Thumb, His Royal Wokeness was out on the wings -

Yes, the camera angles definitely made a point of showing her all alone. Does this mean that they are as manipulative as our grandmothers?

Hold your horses though. I've now seen more photos - not really been bothered to follow the ceremony anyway - where she is clearly sitting by herself. No Prince Andrew there but the coffin in front of her.

The photographers may have prevented Prince Andrew from being seating until they got all their pathetic shots of the queen.

A possibility, maybe.. ish. I'm more inclined to think she was there as the procession entered, the coffin placed and everyone else took their seats for the ceremony.

If I were Andrew, I’d also want to sit at least two meters away from my mother.

As I did not watch after the church service and everyone walking away - I only saw it on the news later that Harry and William walked together - not super close but almost in stride with one another. I thinbk that was a good ending. What happened when indoors - who knows? Maybe nothing or maybe a little mending?

I refuse to be drawn into this manufactured cynicism You need to take what K2 says about the Monarchy with a pinch of salt. With his American/French upbringing he has an unconscious envy that we have one. It's easy to understand his comments when you consider that aspect.

I think Andrew is still under house arrest so there should have been a 'Presence' nearby, just for him.

19 april 1943. The jewish ghetto of Warsaw fights back the nazi troops in charge of its liquidation. Only 60 000 Jews were still alive at that time, from a peak of 400 000+ in the ghetto. No hope no weapons no rescue no nothing. Just to die standing up to their enemies. Heroes of doom. About 6000 will die during one minth of fighting, about the same number will be shot on thespot. The rest will goto the death camps. A handful will escape.

Well it's no joke that today marks the 95th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11. It will probably be a low-key affair so soon after her husbands passing, but my very good wishes go to her today.

Yes, I saw that she didn't want a fuss. (No normal person should!) But it was mentioned that she would be having a special meal with close family members. Has anybody ever read anything about her favourite dish? I would be curious to know.

Oh her favourite dish would be easy to come by from the YouTuber and former chef to the Queen, Princess Diana and the boys. Chef Darren McGrady. I definitely know she had chocolate cake. Just a very thin slice. If the rest of her family and well wishers did not eat the whole thing, she will have another couple of slices during the rest of the week. It is reported that Queen Elizabeth is fond of some grilled fish or chicken, and tends to stay away from starch for her meal at lunch. It's clearly the simple things, that Queen Elizabeth prefers when it comes to food! For fish, the Queen loves some Dover Sole with wilted spinach or courgettes. I think most people imagine she ate rich food but when you think how often she had to eat, simplicity was the wise choice. You only have to look at a fairly svelt old lady. No big Queen Victoria blob here!

You don't live to be 95 in most cases by eating only rich food.
I think I read somewhere that today is the 5th anniversary of the death of Prince (not a member of any royalty).

Several writers have commented how fast the Queen eats. Guests may not start eating until she does and when she is finished everybody must down cutlery at once. As you must also conduct light conversation with the guest on your right, and then on your left, you might only get a few mouthfuls of actual dinner before the plates are whisked away. I don't know how they do the left/right thing, maybe the ladies get to start the conversations with HM leading the way?

Not everyone can talk to the person to their left or right at the same time otherwise you'd be talking to the back of their head.

On the subject of the Queen eating, I remember years ago when she went to Saudi Arabia, in order for her to eat at a state dinner, she was considered an "honorary male".

The usual seating arrangement is boy-girl-boy-girl and the Guest of Honour sits on the right of HM. She would probably turn to him/her to start the conversation and the guests take their cue from her. I don't know, I failed "Dining with the Monarch 101" at finishing school.

The bit about stopping eating the minute the queen does and the staff snatching away the plates instantly is an anecdote from when Victoria was in charge. I don't know if it is true for Elizabeth.

It seems a polite gesture towards the Queen by all the dinner guests to finish up when she does. I cant imagine her sitting there conversing with someone still stuffing their face. I am pretty darn sure she knows when to put that final fork full into her mouth, and place her knife and fork together indicating she has finished her meal. I think she would , in one glance, sum up the plates around her and politely still carry on eating before deciding to finish. To me she is that mindful of her guests around her. As for the ones at the faaaaarrr end of the table - tough if you have been talking too much and not eating!
