Today is the Muslim feast of Aïd el-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. Muslims would be happy today if that stuff was not going on in the usual place.

It's the 40th anniversary of AIDS in the western world and still no vaccine. I guess it's not much of a priority.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/06/france-british-normandy-memorial-d-day-ver-sur-mer A handful of British, American and Free French veterans were actually still around to attend the ceremony. The fellow in the photo looks remarkably fit for his age. I knew someone who was a French partisan in Normandy back then, but he wasn't at the landing beach. He died not long ago. There are more nonagenarians now than earlier on, though of course COVID has winnowed them of late.

The beginning of the end for Richard Nixon, as the Watergate burglars were arrested on this date in 1972.

The 18th of June is commemorated in France as the official start of the French resistance when De Gaulle made a speech on the BBC. Nobody commemorates the 17th of June, which is the day that Pétain announced the surrender of France but not on the BBC.

The older I get, the dafter I get, and more unsteady. UK is famous for its eccentrics so enjoy your daftness. You can bring big smiles to people's faces by being friendly-daft. A recent big red moon here gave me the chance to ask a bunch of 10 years olds what colour the moon should be next time it got painted. Much giggling as they picked the local football colours. It is such a relief not having to be sensible all the time. And get a sturdy walking frame so you don't feel you might fall all the time. If anyone teases you tell them that "come the revolution they will be first against the wall". Happy, happy birthday dear friend.

Mossie! Happy birthday to you. You are absolutely the gift that keeps on giving to Anyport. Everyone should be so "daft".

Did anyone realise at 21 minutes past 9pm last night, it was the 21st minute of the 21st hour of the 21st day of the 21st week of the 21st year of the 21st Centrury? It was also the shortest day and longest night.
