Some great pictures here. I'm stunned by riki's last entry. (Also a perfect Local Color scene.)

Is there a "secret garden" behind that gate, cheery?

Sorry I haven't commented on these earlier -- wonderful bunch all the way back to October. Kimby, I love the contrast of the heavy wooden door with the painted wall on one side & the grim gray wall on the other. Both Cheery's & Kimby's seem to be doorways to enchantment, whether a secret garden or a homey sorcerer's den, we know not. Kerouac's speaks of centuries of residence, possibly by the same family.

Lots of nice photos on here. I just love the lighting on cheery's final photo...and the arches in the distance just draw one into the scene.

Hear hear! I only know where one of them is(Kerouac's pic) , so can tell ncygirl where she will find it next time in Paris! It's very famous - is featured in the Guide books on Paris and the address is: 29 Avenue Rapp, in the 7th. The architecture is Art Nouveau, and won it's designer, Jules Lavirotte, first prize at the Concours des Facades de la Ville de Paris in 1901. It's ceramics and brickwork are decorated with animal and flower motifs intermingling with female figures. These are superimposed om a multicoloured sandstone base to produce a facade that is deliberately erotic, and was certainly subversive in it's day. Also worth visiting is Lavirotte's building, complete with watchtower, which can be found in the Square Rapp. Cheery - I would love to know where that last photo was taken, showing the medieval vaulted ceiling through the door! Same goes for your photo htmb! Where oh where is that beautiful grapevine trailing over that bright blue door

Same goes for your photo htmb! Where oh where is that beautiful grapevine trailing over that bright blue door Doors fascinate me, from the very ornate to the plain. Tod, my photo was taken in the backyard of an inn where I was staying with some friends. It's located about an hour south of Limoux, France. The clock photo I posted at the same time was taken from the front of the same building.
