The garden around my birdbath is filled with a bamboo-leaf plant that spreads all the time. We pull if out only to receive another dose of new leaves. Anyway I've given up so let it grow at the base of this bright plant which has been growing larger very slowly over the years. I have no idea what it is. Bamboo leaf plant

Tod, are those Pachypodium (lamerei?) behind your bamboo-leafed plants?

Yes you are correct Bixa although I have only known it as Pachypodium namaquanum, also known as halfmens or elephants trunk, is a succulent plant of Southern Africa. One has to be awfully careful when gardening near it - those thorns are pretty sharp!
