Do you have any photos to share that show the moon and stars? Here is one:

I don't think so, but I'll have a look.

Spinny...maybe you could take some and post them? Does the moon look different from where you are?

Deyana - of course I'll take some of the moon.....I'll have to wait for a cloudless night...there's so much rain here at the moment.
Please take a picture of the moon when it's new....would it be lying on its back?

Spindrift, I will for sure take some more pictures of the moon. The full moon is just beautiful here, especially with all the millions of stars surrounding it. My camera isn't very good though, so don't know if it will capture the stars, but will try anyway.

Tonight was a perfect night for taking pictures of the moon. Unfortunately it's not easy to get it right because I don't know how to shoot pics in the dark and suspect I needed a tripod.... But I had a go and this was the best I got I'd say it was a full moon but I can't be sure.

This is not mine. I do have one that is similar but it is a 35mm and we are not there yet in transferring our pictures to CD. Plus, the number we have over 40 years is tremendous. This is typical of what you can see here in Tucson when the moon is full.

Spindrift, just love the moon pictures. Man, do they look creepy, the top one reminds me of all those old Dracula films I saw as a kid!
Traveler, that is one big moon, any idea why they appear so big in Tucson?

I just took this moon photo today, it looks like a full (or an almost full moon). It interesting to know that Spindrift's and my photo are of the same 'object' just a few hours apart.

I think it has to do with the clear air and also just if you get the picture really quick, just as it is coming up from the horizon.

That's a lovely picture of the moon. Why so much water though? Was is monsoon season or somefin? That is the Mekong and the houses are on stilts along the shore.

Bixa and Deyana - the spires that you see are on Winchester cathedral! this is my view from the top floor of my house. Deyana - your last moon picture was also spooky! it's nice that we were looking at the moon at more or less the same time. Casi - yes the full moon is tonight. I was hanging out of my window taking the pics late last night and I noticed sudden activity in the houses facing onto mine. One man must have thought I was spying on him and immediately closed his curtains and a woman, who was working at her computer in her basement area, quickly turned off her lights and left the room....

I suppose they noticed because I was experimenting with the flash. In fact the only setting I could find that was halfway decent was with the camera just set to Automatic. The neighbours, no doubt, will start gossiping about me

Let them talk as they say. Is this the cat hater neighbor you're so very fond of by any chance? You could start howling at the full moon tonight if you really want to get their tongues wagging !

I'm getting a really good idea of the mindset of Winchester folk from your posts. Yes, we were probably taking the photo of the moon at about the same time, and to add to the creepiness of it, I swear I could hear a wolf howling in the background, (entirely possible).

The moon here was really full and bright last night. My little camera doesn't capture it at all. Because of this thread, I was out looking at the moon last night, then turned north and was stunned by the brilliance of the evening star. I wasn't sure it was that, since this was @8:30 last night. Anyway, I started thinking about how it seemed to be rising over the ridge of Monte Alban, so went and looked again an hour later. Duh. It was one of the big lights from the archeological site.

I know what you mean Bix, My camera, in particular is not that great. With the naked eye I could see it so differently, the whole area was flooded by the light of the moon and the stars were amazing. Just can't capture them though....

Wow some really stunning pictures. I particulary like the ones of the full moon. I have only seem a moon like T63’s once in the Atlas mountains, I really yearn to see the moon like that again. You are so lucky seeing it often!
I have also tried to take decent pictures of the moon, but never had a camera up to it.

As the moon was rising last night it was accompanied by a large and bright planet (just below and to the left).....now how can we find out which planet it was/is? As it's raining here I won't get a view of the sky tonight.
Casi - no it wasn't that neighbour who is next door to me....those were the neighbours opposite at the back.

I know it is no use to you now but there is an application for the iphone where you point at the sky and using GPS and the tilt sensor on the phone it brings up a map of the sky you are looking at with the planets/stars/constillations named. I think that is so cool and for 59p!
I used to get BBC Focus magazine and each edition they did a list of planets visible in the coming month in the UK with when and where. Maybe you could sneak a peak in WHSmiths and see if its in there?
