I snorted when they said "once in a lifetime" on the news because if it really happens only every 800 years, that would mean "once in 10 lifetimes."

I had a look at the sky last night but there were some clouds just in thesupposed area of the two planets. Right now it's raining, so likely to be cloudy tonight too.

Last night was impossible with a thick layer if cloud, lightening and thunder. But the night before , 19th - There was patchy cloud but enogh sky to see loads of stars and a very bright moon. I am happy to report that I saw the exact globule(s) in the sky as you did Lugg! I wasn't sure but they were most definitely far brighter than Venus the evening star or anything else.
Bixa, don't loose heart about city lights. They say it - the Bethlemhem Star - is bright enough not to be overshadowed in the sky. I hope this is true for you.

Well, I managed to see the two planets. The sky is clear in the southwest at the moment and they were clearly visible. We also took out some binoculars and could see Jupiter brighter and Saturn a bit less so and slightly to the upper right.

Thanks, Tod. It was very cloudy here last night, but I'll try again. the place in the sky where the conjunction is lines up exactly with the huge, oversized, very tall and overly bright streetllight on my street.

It works well. Last night though there were same clouds around and I wanted a photo of them and the moon. But the camera wouldn't focus (automatically) on the moon and only the clouds. I admit to having it on the auto setting and I suppose I could have had a play with it to do what I wanted but didn't have time to get the shot. The zoom is so powerful I took a shot of the end of the Universe. Bit out of focus due to camera shake but there doesn't look like there's a lot past the last set of stars -

Of course they don't compare to the majesty and drama of your photo in #399, but those two moon pictures you took are awfully, awfully impressive.

I went back to my photos in 371 and 373, and I'm sure that Mark will do better in the future since he is living in a place with a clearer sky.

"Southeastern European countries, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in particular, suffer some the highest rate of air contamination throughout Europe. According to new WHO statistics, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Albania and Ukraine have the highest European mortality rates attributed to air pollution. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, 44,000 years of life are lost each year due to particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide or ozone pollution, according the European Environment Agency (EEA)."
January 2020 - "Over the past few weeks, Western Balkan capitals have appeared among the top-ranked cities when it comes to air pollution. Belgrade and Sarajevo topped the daily rankings of the most polluted cities in the world several times over the past few months. According to the Real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) for January 13, Sarajevo holds the fourth place on the list of the most polluted cities in the world.
Due to an alarming air quality situation, the police in Sarajevo have started applying the ban on vehicles with the Euro 2 norm, from traffic today, advising citizens to wear pollution masks and banning the use of solid fuels and heavy oils. The local government in the Canton of Sarajevo has allowed “the suspension of school activities if needed.” According to data from metering stations, the average air pollution index in Sarajevo, measured just after 10 hours, was 239, which puts it at the top of the most polluted cities in the world."
So don't think so.

No photos (my “good camera” died), but the moon has been blood red lately with all the smoke from forest fires in all directions. The full moon was striking, and it was orange as it was setting over the lake when I got up early the next morning. The reflection was especially pretty.
