New Year's eve will be a Full BLUE Moon ("blue "when two full moons in same month) Also ,a partial lunar eclipse occurring, visible in Europe and parts of Asia. Would be so cool if everyone could try and photo. (even with cell phone camera have seen some fine photos on here). Only excuse visibility . Everyone "shoot the moon"! Happy New Year everyone!!!

I'm going to post tonight's moon, as the pictures came out half-way decent & who knows what will happen tomorrow. I would like to announce that this evening, for the first time ever, I could see the rabbit in the moon! Yes, I've looked & looked & could only ever see the man, but all of a sudden the rabbit was revealed to me.

Incredible shots B.! Showed T. and he was mighty impressed. Am keeping my fingers crossed it is clear enough here to shoot.Am going to try to shoot from top of the levee where we will be watching the fireworks and listening to the River boats sounding their horns!

No luck here -- not only is it cloudy but it is also a bit foggy.

Very disappointed in the results. A series of mishaps occurring, from dead battery at the best opportunity,to laziness at 3:33 a.m. when the beautiful moon shining on our pillow moved before I could get up to shoot it. This is from early last evening shot once again from our bedroom balcony:

I think if we'd both spent another 2- or 300 bucks on our cameras we'd be able to capture the moon images we really want. Those are both nice shots, with the framing of the moon in the V of the tree branches in the first, and the graceful shape and delicate branch in the second.

This picture was taken at 1.00am on New Year's Day.... I am disappointed with it because I could see all the 'mountains' on the moon clearly defined but these do not appear in my picture. Although I watched the moon from 9pm - 1am I did not see the eclipse. Imec's picture shows the 'mountains'.... did you use a tripod, Imec?

Yep ~~ Imec's last picture is eggzackly what my beady little eyes saw in the sky and what my camera recorded as a glary blob.
See the rabbit?!

Great pictures. We are still in the mist here, and it is fucking cold outside!

spindrift, yes I did use a tripod. However, the key to the detail in the last shot was something called "exposure compensation" - my first shots just showed a round blob of bright light. You basically have to tell your camera "hey, this object is brighter than you think it is" - you do that by "underexposing" the image (your camera's manual will tell you if your camera has the ability to under or over expose). I believe I underexposed by 3 full stops (the manual will explain what that means).

All very beautiful and I love the fact that we were all looking at the same "object' in the sky from all our different parts of the world. It's a lovely notion to me.

It's a lovely notion that I might actually read the camera manual, but I think Imec has inspired me to do just that.
