What will you most miss about the summer season?

I'll miss not being cold more than anything else. It will be a couple of months still before I have to miss fresh local vegetables, and sometimes now I can ride my bicycle into December (I don't ride when there is a lot of ice and snow, but do ride in warm leather gloves and a scarf). But at night there is already a chill in the air, although the weather is sunny, bright and warm during the daytime now. This means aches and pains return, and the last joint (towards the fingernail) of my small finger (the one that types the "p" and several accents) is really aching.
Early autumn is usually beautiful here; my foreboding is more of wintertime, which I hate with a passion, as it is very isolating.
Funny, we have excellent public transport and are densely populated and walkable, but still, in the wintertime you just don't encounter friends spontaneously as you do from the nice part of spring to most of autumn. I can go days without really seeing anyone except when food shopping or cashing work cheques.
I will tell the Europeans that our seasons are a bit different from theirs in that our springs are not always very nice, while our autumns are usually much more pleasant. Spring is a relief from winter, but it takes a long time to get into the pleasant part, with sun and flowers.

Rain! Summer is the rainy season here, even though we were cheated out of it this year. I love the humidity, the greenness, the drama of towering clouds, boiling gray skies, and miles-high lightning jags.

Will this hurt the farmers? I don't really notice a lot of tropical rain in your recent pics. Does this mean the farmers won't get the water they need for their crops?

i will miss being warm, being able to go outside in a skirt and short shirt, growing things on my balcony, doing cycling tours and camping, climbing outdoors, having sunlight until late in the evening.

Everything rikita said (but the camping, which I hate in all weathers). I had on a light denim jacket today. Still a skirt with no tights or leggings - I love the breeze against my legs when walking or cycling - but 5c less and I'd don leggings.
Pretty much have to consume the balcony basil this week - the other herbs are sturdier, but basil is really a hot-weather plant. It is not indigenous to the Mediterranean.

Oh yeah -- what Rikita said, about it getting dark earlier: Yes, LaGatta -- there hasn't been a drought this bad here since 1987. So many crops have withered.

bixa, you aren't at the Equator, but there is very little difference in terms of hour of darkness where you live - is it technically tropical in Oaxaca? (Can't tell by world maps - it is very borderline). I feel terribly sad about the farmers - that really worried me when you said that. How are people coping?

Here in the valley of Oaxaca we don't get freezes or even frosts, so with irrigation there is a 365 day growing season. Well, they just replanted. I imagine we'll see even more inflation, though.

I miss the evenings with daylight until 10 and warm weather. I love sitting outside when it gets dark late.

Eating dinner outside in the evening. Since late spring we eat on our terrace every night here in Portugal and it its always a big drag the first night we have to move inside. Any day soon the weather should be changing.

We eat, hang out, study on our screened back porch most of 3 seasons. Garden view a plus.
This has been the kind of summer here that makes me understand why people love summer.

I have a feeling that I'm not going to miss the summer as much as I usually do. It's been a bit too busy this year. But....I will miss the warm sunny days and watching the sunsets in the evenings and dreaming....

Rain! Summer is the rainy season here, even though we were cheated out of it this year. I love the humidity, the greenness, the drama of towering clouds, boiling gray skies, and miles-high lightning jags. Igualmente, although we didn't lack for stormy, wet weather here in Michoacán. We are still having good rains every other day or so, infrequent thunder. We missed 3 weeks of the Mexican rainy season when we were in los Estados Unidos in August, but we had plenty of heat and humidity to start off our stay. picasaweb.google.com/doncuevas/EarthSkyAndFlowers#5353642429487283010 Click right arrow for more like this.
