Yeah, another total washout. Two more months to go in the season, though.

Kerouac, you sound disappointed. Surely you weren't hoping for massive destruction?

Karen may have fizzled, but her remains are wreaking havoc on flight in the southeastern part of the U.S; speaking from personal experience.

Major flight delays due to tornadic weather. Looks like I just beat the tornado watch in DC, even though my flight left over an hour late, due to Charlotte weather. Then my next flight, a little regional plane, sat in Knoxville for an hour and a half before they were allowed to take off for Charlotte. So, the timing was good for me, but the regional rocks and rolls in clear weather, and it does not help that I don't tolerate motion well. Anyway, I'm home after a lot of "hurry up and wait," but I'm sure many others weren't so lucky with their connections.

The predictions for Hurricane season this year are way below average. Only 2 hurricanes are predicted to enter the Atlantic and make landfall. Well, even with that, we know what just one can do...

Hurricane Amanda, currently a Category 4 but expected to weaken is off the coast of Mexico out in the Pacific.

I rarely pay much attention to the Pacific side, but now that the season is starting, I'll begin to check both sides regularly.

Oh, hell. Why did you have to mention hurricane season. I'd forgotten all about it. Now I'm really not going to go home.

I scoped this out more closely on Tropical Storm Watch. It has yet to be tropical storm status, is skirting Florida and is projected to head up the East Coast to who knows where. In the meantime, there are 2 in the PACIFIC, one is fizzling out and the other threatening the West Coast of Mexico.

Sorry, you Southeasteners. What a thing to have to deal with every year. All I have is the promise of "The Big One" (Earthquake).

Lizzy, I think it's more likely to head North along the East coast, but, one never knows with these storms. There are no indications of a Gulf trajectory.

The last I heard, the aforementioned tropical depression is strengthening and will likely become a Tropical Storm by day's end. It sits in the Atlantic just east of the Northern Florida Coast but, is expected to start moving further North up the East coast.

And it looks like (soon to be) Hurricane Arthur will be celebrating the 4th of July off the coast of North Carolina.

I'm thinking of getting lost in Paris, Lizzy. My Florida family has been really sick with one of those childhood illnesses that's extra hard on adults, and other family members are going through some serious personal issues. Hurricane issues are just one more thing to cause some extra stress. If I'd just turn off my electronics I'd be able to tune it all out and pretend, BUT I love my family too much. I have had some GREAT lunches though. I'm not a foodie, so don't expect much, but meals out have been very super.

I have touched base with all my family and loved ones who live on the Atlantic seaboard. All report they are safe and secure and not too revved, concerned, about a catastrophic event.

So, they say that July 4th is the earliest that a hurricane has ever hit the North Carolina coast. Boston already had its Independence Day fireworks last night to be on the safe side. imageshack.com/a/img840/6946/xdx6.jpg

The second named tropical storm in the Atlantic this season, BERTHA has formed. Too soon to tell where or what she will do...

I was watching that little red X on the NHC site last night, but the last time I looked it hadn't been named yet. The 5-day track (which is of course meaningless) shows it staying to the east of the Bahamas so far.

My husband just assured me that Bertha is likely to go "out to sea" because of the high pressure system that's covering most of the Eastern US won't allow her to get through. She is not being seen as a major threat.
