I thought that hurricane season ended on October 31st, but I just checked and it continues in the Atlantic until November 30th. I didn't know that either. I always thought it was November 1st.

Tonight there will be a hurricane relief benefit concert featuring people such as Sting, Springsteen, jimmy Fallon, etc. It will be carried live through various broadcast means and all donations will go to the Red Cross.

That is dire! Pacific hurricane season started May 15 here, but isn't supposed to kick up much of a fuss this year, as reported in your link, Casimira. Right now we're getting the rain from tropical storm Barbara -- a gentle & pleasant rain.

My post seems to have disappeared, so here it is again: Tropical Storm Andrea has formed in the Gulf and we've been told to expect possible flooding, and wind with the possibility of isolated tornados.

The NHC track shows that the remnants should be pouring rain on northern Europe by the end of next week.

Oh that's just great (not really my first thought). That resolves the question of "should I take my raincoat on my trip?"

Too soon to tell -- it could be north of Scotland or, er, north of France.

Well, right now it's southwest of here, but we have already received a tremendous amount of rain.

I don't think you'll get rained on twice, because the track is showing north of Ireland after crossing the Atlantic.

Though many parts of Florida received winds, heavy rainfall, flooding, and reported several tornadoes, my area was spared all but the heavy rain. With the storm now quickly making its way up the east coast of the US, here this morning we have a crystal clear sky.

Hope not. Bad enough worrying about forest fires in Montana, we don't need hurricanes in Florida to worry about, too!

The news here has certainly been full of the "Pacific cyclone meets Atlantic hurricane" business in Mexico, particularly the flooding in Acapulco with the airport underwater and the looting in the shopping malls.

Yes, I saw that its most likely track is towards the Alabama coast, but as we know, just about anything can happen in the Gulf of Mexico.

As of this a.m. Karen is 300 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi. We are likely to have a major rain event here but other areas more prone to storm surge and rising tides may experience more water. Likely land fall will be along the Alabama coast or the Florida panhandle. It's a wide system, not real organized at this time but as it reaches warmer water temperatures will likely be a Category 1 with winds at 74ish mph. It's the surge in unprotected areas that is the greatest threat at this point.
