The storm is on its way to Paris. The wind made it hard to ride my Vélib this morning. Not going out anymore today.

Last Thursday we were also affected by the same storm here in Florida. Very high gusty winds, lots of power outages, some flooding. Since most of our power lines are above ground and we have loads of trees, residents in my city were without power most of the night and some into late the next day. I have one vulnerable spot in my soon to be finished roof repair, an area way up underneath an overhang, that got zapped by wind-driven rain so a new leak sprang up inside my master bedroom. It’s kind of good this was discovered now rather than later, after the whole job has been completed.
It’s all very strange for this time of year. Weather like this doesn’t usually arrive until late March or into April.

Oh no Rikita - hope you get home safely. Strange weather indeed htmb. Here it has been terrible and still is. Gale force winds and heavy rain with some thunder thrown in. Lots of trees down and travel disrupted. But its much worse in other areas - flooding by rivers and especially along some coasts.

we managed, fortunately - our train was supposed to continue to Hamburg, but made Berlin its final stop, so we were lucky, but some others weren't ...

Yes, they said on the news that DB was cancelling a number of trains, same in the UK and probably Belgium. All ferry service across the English Channel is cancelled. In France we have just been told to stay at home in the northern part of the country unless going out is a necessity. Nothing much happening in Paris yet except for gusts of wind, but it is supposed to be bad in the middle of the night.

All day yesterday we had strong winds, driving rain and a few hail showers. It was still raining when I went to bed last night. This morning it was still gusty when the dog took me for a drag around the estate (my back you know...all I can do is hang onto the lead and pray) at lunchtime it got quite stormy and we even had a bit of thunder and snow flurries in with the rain...

And now the storms and floods have hit the east coast and the same volunteers that fought flames are now plucking idiots out of trees. "Oh I knew it was flooded but I thought I could swim across the river." One guy had to hang on to a tree all night. One town greatly damaged in the fires, was hit by the storms and there is not a lot left of it.
The drought has broken in most areas so the farmers can watch their precious topsoil wash away. To balance this is the generosity of other farmers who have donated scores of huge rolls of hay and the truck drivers who run a monthly convoy across the country to deliver feed to those in need.

We had a couple of nights of -25C but not we are back to above average temperatures, -4C this afternoon. This winter has been unusual, but a very good unusual. Happy that there is only about 5 weeks until we will begin to feel the spring. Our snow accumulation is minimal this year in comparison to last year. Last year we had at least 3 feet on the roof, this year not much more than perhaps 8 inches.

I'm suddenly wondering -- do you ever walk out on the frozen lake or do you steer clear of it?

I'm suddenly wondering -- do you ever walk out on the frozen lake or do you steer clear of it? When we first moved here, we would go for walks with our dog at the time, Juneau (a malamute), along the frozen shoreline and venture out perhaps 50 feet. I have thought this past year that we should get some snowshoes and get back out again, it would be a good challenge for my balance. It is quite beautiful, so crisp and peaceful, especially in the morning when there are few snowmobiles out. This weekend is the Family Day Long Weekend, I expect to see my neighbours out with campfires at the shore and fireworks in the evening.

I spent a week in Paris where it was cold and windy. Back in the south, it felt at least 10° colder as I got out of the train on Thursday, although the TGV from Paris to Bordeaux had to slow down because of high winds.
Yesterday it was 18°, sunny in the morning, this morning there is a bit of wind and some clouds but it's still supposed to be around 20°.
My son in Canada lives right on the shore of the Ottawa river, which usually freezes in winter, despite its size. The first time he saw trucks driving on the ice he was really surprised, now he is used to it. It think they are having an easier winter this year too.

Today here it was really terrible as the impact of Dennis on our rivers emerged. Herefordshire has been so badly affected along with other areas of the Midlands and south Wales. roads flooded, roads washed away, homes devastated by flooding. Travel across and around the county completely disrupted. More rain to come in a couple of days. People evacuated , major incident declared. And nada from our MPs so far. I have protested on their FB pages - no response expected but it has made me feel better.

That is terrible, Lugg. Have you been able to get out on your own land to see how it fared? How are your animals?
Coincidentally, just before opening this thread I was looking at this:

That was extremely hairy, he must have had about 30 degrees of drift to counter.
Weather here has been very easy compared with the rest of the country, a bit blowy at times and some rain. It is February Filldyke after all, but we have got off very lightly compared to the west.

I don’t know about Paris but I haven’t seen a snowflake this winter.
Sure we aren’t through March yet but it looks unlikely.
