Summer has been quite tolerable this year. Only one or two days over 30°, although it is supposed to be really hot on Thursday. At the moment the forecast is for 36° then, cooler before. But we need rain -- my lawn looks like a doormat.

Today was our day of respite after yesterday's searing heat. Tomorrow should also be okay. But as bjd reported, Thursday (and also Friday) are supposed to be unbearable even in northern France, as high as 35° in Paris. Some towns in the south might reach 40°.

We have now passed 5pm, which is supposed to be the hot point of the day. Only 39°C outside, not the 42° predicted. Still, hot as hell out there. But it's also windy, although it feels more like a hairdryer than a breeze.

It's 5.30pm - icy wind blowing so no patio sundowners today. Instead we sitting in the kitchen with the oven door open - enjoying the last of the heat from roasting the lamb. I never close the oven door if we want a little warmth that's going for free.

Tomorrow it is the turn of Paris to reach 40°. But only for one day, thank god. Today it is only 31° right now.

It's regularly forty degrees where I am and has been since we got here a few weeks ago but I think there is a big difference between having it here in the countryside and suffering it in the middle of a major city like Paris. I had a couple of nights once in the middle of Malaga at that temperature and the compounded heat radiating off all the buildings was unbearable. I have sympathy for you.

Only 29° and cloudy here right now. More than forecast but certainly better than yesterday. But it was almost 26° overnight.

We are having another heavenly day at 24C. The weather worldwide is shown several times on Sky News in the mornings and I always have to guess what temperature it is in Paris as they only ever show London/UK - so I suppose its about the same?!

Down to 34° in Paris with a haze after being 36° an hour ago. It was supposed to get up to 39-40° today. I hope we get some of those severe thunderstormss they were tempting us with.

Yeah well -- don't hold your breath. We were also supposed to have severe thunderstorms last night. Nothing.

There was actually a tiny sprinkle of rain about 30 minutes ago, but it did not continue.

We are in what passes for Summer here. It just nudged 30C yesterday, our high for the year. This morning I watched a line of thunderstorms trying to advance from the South on the weather radar. It petered out about 40 km before reaching us but it carried muggy warmth here that is unusual for us. And by warmth I mean 23C—but it felt warmer because of the humidity. As we used to say back East, "it ain't the heat, it's the stupidity". I wish I were British so I could correctly include the period/full stop in the preceding sentence within the quotation marks

it felt warmer because of the humidity. As we used to say back East, "it ain't the heat, it's the stupidity". My mother would sometimes say, after a crowded bus ride on a hot day, "Tain't the heat, it's the humanity".

The sun was not allowed to shine in Paris today, so it was deligtfully mild. I just wish it would rain.

We have had lovely mild days so far but today is much hotter although the predicted temperature is 28C max. Well, it's too unpleasant outside right now and I'm not looking forward to having to put my oven on later. A nice thunderstorm would be very welcome.

Just had a very short thunderstorm here. That might not be right term -- there was thunder and some rain and wind, but it soon passed.

I woke up to a wet garden and pool surrounds but it was not raining, so it could have been a heavy dew. Low grey clouds and a nip in there air. It was 11C and wasn't going to move beyond 17C. Wonderful weather for planting out new veg from the seedling trays.

The sky was clear this morning and it was 13°, but by this afternoon it was 30. It's nearly 9 pm and it's still 28° outside. Hotter tomorrow allegedly.
