14° this morning and clouding over. We are supposed to get some more rain this evening and again tomorrow. It's certainly mild though since it was 22° last night. A general improvement in the weather is forecast for mid-week.

Warming up where I am in Spain, in Jaen. A pleasant mid-twenties Celsius and expected a few degrees higher over the next few days. Very dry though. View from the castle (now a hotel) and the cathedral. Quick video taken by a daughter -

A lovely warm sunny morning in complete contrast to yesterday when it rained all day.

In spite of what we thought was an awful April, the average temperature was still 2° higher than normal.

It is 79 / 26 degrees right now -- and it's almost 10:20 p.m.
Today was deadly. I honestly didn't know I was capable of sweating that much.
Tomorrow I can look forward to 36 / 97.
I don't know if I can cool the upstairs off enough to sleep up there. A friend who lives in an upstairs apartment has taken herself off to an airbnb for the next few days because her house is so unbearable.

Can't you sleep downstairs? Our house in Toulouse was always hotter upstairs than downstairs since, as you know, heat rises. And we had no air-conditioning. It's tough trying to sleep when it's that hot.
Meanwhile, this morning it's a clear sky and 10°. Forecast for this afternoon is 25°.

Yes, I'm aware. I will come down & sleep on the sofa if I have to, although prefer my bed. I really, really, really miss having my hammock to go to.
It is 98/36 right now. I'm in despair over the front patio with its fiberglass cover that is trapping all that heat. The hourly forecast says that at 1 a.m. tonight the temperature will have only dropped to 78/25.5.

Gosh that is uncomfortably hot Bixa - hopefully it will cool down and you will get some sleep soon.
I usually post ----"Weather here is shite again.""
So it is only fair to say that we had our Late Spring/ Summer today and it will likely last until Sunday; if we are lucky .

Be worth every penny over the Summer I bet.

Not really. Electricity for homes is subsidized by the government, meaning we pay very little. I currently pay under $10 for two months of electricity. But what happens with ACs is that they tip a household over a certain maximum and the price skyrockets. Obviously, a person could just choose to accept that as a trade for comfort. But once you've gone into that higher bracket, you are charged that for six months, regardless.
Also, I don't really like AC because you wind up tethered to it. The contrast makes it even more miserable to go outside.
I shared a bedroom with my sister one insanely hot July in Mérida. There was one of those through-wall ACs in the room, up by the ceiling. Not only do I not like AC, I really don't like air blowing on me. I suggested to my sister that we just cool off the room, then turn off the AC when we went to bed.
To this day I can see the expression on her face.

In Zambia there was also different tiers of costs depending on how much was used up to a certain number of kilowatt hours. It meant the low income families paid a minimal amount because electricity was just used for a fridge and lighting. Then as soon as you started using air cons or electric cookers the cost per unit shot up when you went over that limit.

In France there are special rates for low income and elderly people but I don't think they check how the electricity is used. While my mother was alive, I would receive offers from the electric company to benefit from those rates, since her official address was mine, but it would have been dishonest to follow up on it. Otherwise, we just have special lower night rates, from 23:00 to 07:00 in Paris and from 22:00 to 06:00 in more rural locations.

It has cooled off! It's @ 73/23 outside right now and even upstairs isn't the box of heat it has been. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 90/32, which is downright balmy compared to what we've endured the past few days.

Our night rate is from 1 am to 7 am, but there is also a lower rate from 12:30 to 14:30. It really seems to vary by area.
Yesterday afternoon it was 29.9°C on our thermometer. I'm not ready yet for summer heat. Fortunately it is supposed to be only about 24° today and then 17° tomorrow.
