George has just done an hours bowling practice and I’ve been his 72 year old wicket keeper.
I hurt.

Seriously..get a sports masseur to attend to your hurty areas as soon as you can after a heavy day. Otherwise you will automatically move in an unnatural manner and strain a second set of muscles. How are the knees? Can you still squat like Marsh? OK...stats... how many runs did George take...and byes? Did you stump him? I sit here trying to imagine going to the matches again...

Basically I was just collecting the balls from his bowling and catching them if they bounced kindly.
Gone in the groin a bit though....

I have heard that bowlers are not allowed to polish the ball with a bit of spit anymore Good god, man! What is happening to this world? Are they going to use tennis balls next...or aluminium bats?

Sweat is allowed though. As Georgie boy is a spin bowler he's not too bothered. July 3 still pencilled in as start date. Give them the best part of 4 months.

Perhaps they can use leaf blowers instead of bats. Filled with disinfectant of course.

Re sweat...drinks break every 20 minutes for the bowlers so they will make lotsa sweat with which to use on ball. Problem...bowlers develop flat feet from carrying all that water around.

Still no amateur cricket despite the nature of the game means social distancing is natural.
Open the pubs. Flock to beaches in your thousands, play football with full contact but no cricket in case you catch it from contact with the ball.
Total bollocks.

The one day series with Oz is nicely poised at one each. Even though cricket this season has had no spectators the standard has been terrific and the games with Windies, Pakistan and Oz have all been exciting.

I thought they took a fairly good team over to you. Some old hands and some just getting into the game.Pity they crumble but it is all experience. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Is George playing anywhere?

Good bowling side but the batting can be brittle. I like Finch as captain though. He’s good. George has been playing (playing a village game today) and has a first XI bowling average of 14.4. Took 6-29 last Sunday week.

6/29 ! About time they gave him a contract, surely? Or are they going to do a "Dutchy" Holland on him and call him up for his 1st Test aged 38 (and he won the match for Oz).

It was a Sunday game though and the sort of return he shpuld get from time to time.
What was better was the last Saturday League game (40 overs) in which he took 1-17 off 8 overs.

He is unbelievable ...so consistent. I suppose the current virus situations have ruled out any overseas tours for a while for him.

Well, yes.
He'd need to be picked by somebody first!

A.. mere detail! I don't believe that England has a whole stable of bowlers of his calibre and can afford to overlook his stats.

There’s a long way between club cricket and international cricket plus off spinners aren’t in vogue these days.

I haven't had time to follow the latest play, but I will express my sorrow at the death of Dean Jones. I watched him play in Adelaide and I had the feeling that he would never get out, he would just keep on batting until Stumps. Vale 'Deano'.

Mick (and any others)Did you see any of the cricket today? Day 5 of the last Test v. India. Both teams had 2 wins and this was the decider. This match had been running evenly as well and it could have been either side to win. I won't go into details you can find yourself or results in case you want to watch. However it was extremely exciting and the last session was runs per ball stuff. I nearly messaged you on here to alert you but I figured you would be asleep.

George was telling me last night about the Aussies when he bowled to them at Lords. Apparently David Warner is very short which I wouldn't have guessed. Also, after he bowled Matthew Wade 2 balls running he just walked out of the nets and he never saw him again.

In an attempt to have any cricket at all this summer, the powers-that-be swapped dates, changed venues, incarcerated teams then freed them, and had flights booked, cancelled and rebooked and generally stuffed up the season with no-one knowing what was going on. Any teams at all would have suffered from all this uncertainty and from various sources we are hearing of unrest among the players. Oz is trying out some new players with mixed results but it is going to be a season we will want to forget.

We've just been thrashed by India in a Test Match at Lords.
I don't think I've seen a weaker England team for years.

Wouldn't it be ironic if England and Oz were the 2 worst teams of the season. I can't believe both sides should be so out of form at the same time...can all of this be due to COMID and the shot gun method of decision making?

Ooh, Mick. Wait until you see our Women's team! The young fast bowler has that "You're dead" expression that Lillee showed as he started his run-up.
