bjd - those gorgeous little Hoopoes are in my garden all the time and bring us such delight. They have a really strange birdcall. I was surprised to learn they are the national bird of Israel.

Wikipedia shows that they are just about everywhere in the eastern hemisphere -- but not much in England, hence the stir in Dorset.

Hardly wild and wonderful but a pigeon on the nest.

Difficult to see the details, but I always wonder where on earth are the pigeon nests since they seem to have no trouble reproducing?

Yes for that one pigeon. I was talking about the six billion others?

Great picture, mick! If only pigeons would do more of that rather than running around looking for lost Cheetos.
In today's paper, I was reading that the sparrow population of Paris has declined 75% but it mentioned that the decline was about 90% in London. The article was claiming that the principal reason is fewer wild areas with bugs and seeds to eat. I say bullshit. There is some other reason.

Cute. Is it trying to fly? It’s a fledgling on it’s first flight.

You can almost see him thinking about how much flying sucks.
