Yaay!
I don't know if you buy books as gifts for other people, Huckle, but I have found that the daily newsletters on the ebooks often alert me to a worthy book I never heard of. I buy quite a few "real" books for my mother, and the ebook newsletters are handy starting points for searching out good stuff.

Mr. Kimby was given a Kindle for Christmas almost 2years ago, and has yet to use it. Should he? Pros and cons of e-readers, please. We may have waited long enough for the technology to have caught up to the vision...

I love my kindle. The original one with a non reflective screen is my favourite. Great for reading on holiday, when out and about. I used to take mine to work as it slips easily into my bag. My son borrows it (even tho it has a pink cover!) as we have a similar taste in books at least some of the time. The kindle fire is great too...I tend to use mine for audiobooks. Between us we have 7 kindles..a couple are so battered that we don't use them much...just when we forget to charge the one we're using at the time. Jeff has an 8" one that he uses as a tablet. I think that they're splendid. All 3 of us regularly buy ebooks so we can borrow each others' kindle if we fancy a book somebody else has downloaded. We already have full bookcases...but I do still buy the occasional paper book. Ebooks tend to be quite competitively priced, so it works out ok. As for audiobooks...Jeff and I each pay a small monthly fee which entitles us to one audiobook per month..if you don't pay a monthly fee then audiobooks can be quite expensive. With the package we have you can return a book if you don't like the narrator, or dislike the book and you get your credit back. Audiobooks are good on long journeys, and when you're waiting for a bus, sewing, or just trying to block out the monotony of a hum drum existence.... However...I still think that the original plain, non reflective screen ereader is the best to get. The range of books available is quite extensive.

Yes, Mr. Kimby should start using his Kindle.
Kimby, have you put the Kindle app on your phone? I have never owned a Kindle, but there is a free Kindle app for every device. I have two tablets of different sizes, but since I got a phone I have been perfectly content to read on it rather than either of the larger devices. Put the app on your phone & try it out. You have nothing to lose except the price of whatever your test book is.
Since I started getting the daily emails with tailored-to-me ebook offers, I have amassed quite a library. I absolutely love the luxury of so much choice. I'm not into audio books, but Kindle keeps trying to give me a free audio book with various ebook purchases I've made. Also, there are ebooks that you're allowed to lend to another person for a two week period.
What this thread needs is for people who use Amazon/Kobo/Barnes&Noble/AppleBooks/Google in other countries to please report on any similar limited-time-off ebook newsletters available in regions other than the US. And Canada -- can Canadians access the US Amazon deals I've been reporting on here?

My poor phone is full up. I have to delete photos to take more photos. (I need a tutorial on how to copy all my photos to a PC).
I’ve deleted apps and can’t reload them. I can’t even download the latest iOS updates.
Adding a book app ain’t gonna happen. On the other hand, we HAVE this unused Kindle...
Also two iPads I inherited from my mother, but no one knows the login info for the App Store....

You need to find out where Mac sends pictures. Android pictures go to Google Photos if enabled. Any Kindle books you buy are in your Kindle cloud forever, for you to access & download or not as needed. You probably need a tech person to help if you can't even update. He/She could probably show you some kind of work-around for the iPads. And of course, you have a Kindle!

A bluetooth could transfer all of the photos to the computer that you are not allowed to use, then you could delete them from the phone.

But does it tell you HOW to do this? (I’m guessing bixa will soon relocate this side discussion to a technical thread where it belongs.)

No, you have to ask a man how to do this, because I don't think that women know how to use Google.

I swap files between my new/old iPhone and my PC using a piece of software called "EaseUS MobiMover". I have no complaints, i quickly figured it out and it does what it is supposed to. With it, you can easily save all the photos etc. on your iPhone in any way you prefer. You use the USB adapter cable that comes with your iPhone to transmit the data back and forth. I like wired vs. wireless, simpler, faster, and more fault resistant.

I agree that wires are faster than wireless, but poor Kimby is not allowed direct access to her husband's computer, from what she has said.

Infrequent access. And as soon as I sit down, he says, “Are you almost done?” Argh.

Ohhhh, thank you, Huckle! I had not looked at Early Bird yet this morning, but immediately scampered over there to see that I did indeed receive that offer. As you say, "favorite, often reread", so I of course clicked and bought. Thinking about it, I'm not entirely sure I ever read Ghost Train to the Eastern Star. If so, that's an extra treat in store. Theroux's new book, On the Plain of Snakes is available in pre-order: www.amazon.com/dp/B07LC9F6ZY/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1Edited to say that I think I did in fact read the Eastern Star book, as I believe that is where Theroux re-encounters the "lost" passenger from Great Railway Bazaar (?). Anyway, in trying to figure that out, I came across this NPR broadcast & transcription which may be of interest to some: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93702596

As it happens, I bought the hardback of this book just a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with it, as it's one of those cookbooks that inspire you to go cook something, whether or not you follow a recipe from it. The digital edition is $1.99 usd today at Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Google, and Kobo.

I believe there are several admirers of Wilkie Collins' Women in White on anyport. You all may be interested in this >free< offer, available from Kindle, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Google & Apple Books. You may have to type "no name wilkie collins free" into the various search engines on those sites, but here is Amazon's: www.amazon.com/No-Name-Wilkie-Collins-ebook/dp/B00847QC7Q/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=no+name+wilkie+collins+free&qid=1569172953&s=digital-text&sr=1-1No Name"A tragic tale of family and misfortune from the author of The Woman in White When their beloved parents die in quick succession, Magdalen and Norah Vanstone find that their world has been torn asunder. Through a legal technicality, their father’s will renders them without a legitimate claim to their inheritance. All of their family’s money goes to their uncle, and the orphaned girls are left reeling. Reduced to utter poverty, Norah takes a job as a governess. But Magdalen is determined to win back what is rightfully theirs. In this deft and moving story, Wilkie Collins weaves a powerful narrative of justice and familial bonds. This ebook features a new introduction from Otto Penzler and has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices."
