I've had a hankering to see New Orleans, especially, since knowing how some of you love it, and seeing your photos.
Yesterday I got a wedding invitation from a dear old friend who's getting married in three weeks, in New Orleans. (This is a friend who made it possible that my do-it-yourself wedding started a mere 30 min late, as the harpist replayed her repertoire a time or two, while my friend, my brother and his wife took cake layers out of the cardboard boxes I'd transported over at last minute, arranged them tier fashion and stuck boxwood sprigs between, across the street at the parish hall, and I waited for them to rush back into the church. My advice to all brides-to-be: Don't Try To Make Your Own Wedding Cake!) She moved to NO 15 years ago, had to evacuate to her mother's in MS before the flood got halfway to her 2nd floor apt., but then moved back down into the middle of things when her workplace reopened.
So I know it will be beautifully done, because that's how she does things (and I am confident will remember my bad example), and the reception will be at the Audubon Tea Room, which looks to be in the middle of the kind of trees I'd like to walk under.
But:
A. Can't afford it right now, what with the one daughter soaking up culture, education and the occasional glass of wine in Paris, and the other soaking up the atmosphere in the PNW, both requiring tuition payments to underwrite.
B. Am scheduled to work that weekend, and it's Thanksgiving weekend when most people already have plans and won't be willing to trade.
So, I'll come down there another time when I can actually visit with the bride and maybe buy casimira a cup of coffee.
