Oh, he is beautiful, Cheery. So much attention to detail and he is so colourful. Is there a reason for not having a mouth? If you glued 2 chopsticks together, a point at each end, it would make a pole for him to hold. Have you given him a name yet?

Thanks all. Questa I wanted to keep him simple...I have a stick to decorate with ribbons and bells just haven't had a chance to do it yet

Yes, I like just the eyes; I have no trouble imagining his expressions. I want to play with him and make him dance - ring his bells!

Rag dolls are just as appealing as teddy bears or other stuffed animals because you can hug them to death and they feel wonderful, unlike plastic babies.

I'd never compare cherry's wonderful creation with a mass-produced object, but I thought this was very cute for a mass-produced object, and children love him; www.ikea.com/ca/fr/catalog/products/50344203/I haven't sewn for a long time, but perhaps I should make something similar for my friends' children and grandchildren. My mum made me a stuffed velveteen Siamese.

You are very kind...it's just something to do. They never quite turn out in reality as well as they do in my head I spent ages cutting out felt leaves last night ready for my green man doll, wondering whether I could affix antlers....mad she is Oh and the Morris dancer just has a stick..I may decorate it at some point...bored with him now

I wish I could make those kinds of "mistakes".
Cheery, she is absolutely exquisite! I adore all the careful detailing, the very pretty garments, the exuberant hair, and her lovely face. You are such an artist!

Cheers medears....she'll probably fall to bits before long. I bought a book it has three projects with increasing levels of complexity...altho I have modified this one a lot. This is the first project and I was really impressed with the instructions for making the hands in particular. The main problem I have is that I don't use a sewing machine so with the best will in the world my seams are never going to be as strong as they're supposed to be. I love hand sewing tho....and as soon as I have been to the fabric stall on the market I shall start on the next one (probably an improved version of this one...not ready for needle sculpting faces yet....) I've been spending a lot of time hanging around hospitals, what with my sister having chemo and son having loads of tests....with all the anxiety I'm feeling I've found that throwing myself into mindless tasks like sewing is a welcome diversion....

I don't like dolls. But my daughter does. My hobbies are gardening and military history. I quit sex because it has side effects. 4 children in my case hihihi

she'll probably fall to bits before long I don't think that type of doll is usually meant to be played with. Many adults have or collect dolls because of their beauty, whimsy, artistry, etc. -- all of which your doll has in abundance. Go look at "handmade dolls" on Etsy and you'll start giving your dolly the respect she deserves.

She'd fall into bits if you gave her to a three-year-old, but that is not what she is for.
Do she and Morris Dancer get together for a chat?

Cheery, she is remarkable. I noticed her hands first thing. I've never seen fingers that finely detailed. And to think you did it all by hand. I hope you have put her on a pedestal some place where you can see her often. Just lovely!

Thank you for your kind comments. I sometimes worry that I have little to contribute to anyport as I'm not big on travel and tend to stay in the country. Despite this you've made me feel very welcome here. Thank you x

Oh Cheery ~ this wonderful thread and really, everything else you contribute are shining examples of the main anyport focus: Anyone interested in the world around them will find things of interest here. <-- [from "Welcome to Any Port in a Storm"]We don't have to travel away from home to be able to show places and things of interest to others!

Ha ha on your friend's comment! She does look as though she's seen some life. The two of them together are Anne Baxter and Bette Davis.

I am starting to think that your house might be scary, Cheery, at least to sleep in at night. After movies like Chucky, Annabelle and other such things, I would not trust your creations to behave at night in the dark.
But I am quite sure that you were not planning on killing people when you created these treasures.

I tend to get rid of them pretty quickly Kerouac the one with the plastic surgery face will probably be recycled because I really don't like it. The only one I've kept is the Morris man and the one I'm working on atm...another punk

Unpicked???!!! Hooray for your sister, who knows great work when she sees it! I know you want to get better and better and better at this Cheery, but remember that all great artists also have their earlier work. They don't go around destroying it because they think it falls short of some impossible ideal of perfection.

Late to the thread again...#48/9 The ladies look like a pair of taxi-dancers wishing they were somewhere else. Your punk girls have such sweet faces (love the dimple) I can't imagine them being nasty-punk.The blonde is beautiful, wistful...needs love. All of them show your huge talent in this hobby, have you thought about an Indian lady in a sari or other ethnically dressed dolls...nice fabrics around.
