Every few weeks a couple of guys with an open truck drive slowly up Our road, one ringing a bell. They are after anything metallic so we just leave anything appropriate outside and it gets removed.

When I was a child there was an old man with a horse and low dray slowly going along the road ringing a bell and shouting out "Rags, bottles or bones", for people to bring out stuff to him. Such were known as 'Rag and Bone men"

Every few weeks a couple of guys with an open truck drive slowly up Our road, one ringing a bell. They are after anything metallic so we just leave anything appropriate outside and it gets removed. We have those guys here, except they have a speaker on top blaring the information that they will buy old coins, dead appliances, etc. It's noisily annoying, especially when they come around more than once a day & drive very slowly down the street. I always think, "Oh, good they're back. Now I can take out that old anvil I forgot about when they collected the wood-burning stove."

I'm a bit bored...I still have plans for mosaic but haven't got a design yet. No room for more dolls, and need to find the right material for my miniature teddy bears...so I started this again just to keep busy...

Nice one Cheery! I got bored with knitting baby things for my friend's expected grandchild so I started a pair of 'duelling' gloves from a book of Harry Potter patterns. They're for one of my granddaughters who collects everything Harry Potter. It's her birthday in May but I fear she might get them for another 'gift-giving' day. They're done in 3-ply yarn with beading all the way up, and I've realised my eyes ain't what they were.

Thanks, Bixa. I’d forgotten I’d done a report. I highly recommend a visit to the HP Studios. Though I’ve read all the books, I’m not a super fan. Plus I was sick that day from jetlag and stomach ailments, but our visit was still a MAJOR highlight of the London visit. I really got a kick out of how much my mega fan daughter enjoyed the day. Even recently, I was watching the fourth film with my granddaughters and had fun recognizing places in the film where we’d stood, sat, walked.

I have never been to the HP studios - maybe one day. Good luck with your mosaics Cheery. You are very talented. But yes, Bulwell, a suburb of the city, was way behind the times. Mark ... post 172

Lugg, caught that now. I've been a little busy and missed it. Indeed we do live in a small world but no, I've not been back for many a year. My Aunt and Uncle lived there also but it must be forty years or more since I went there. The bridge you mentioned I used to walk under it every week day to go to nursery school. One day the wind was so strong under it, it blew me flat on my back. I know the town has developed but with that and Hucknall nearby, both were devastated by the pit closures. I have no intention now of returning anyway.

Mark - I've been a little busy and missed it ...of course I knew that -hoping things are getting at least a little easier for you now. I was living close to there from 81 until 86 ( Watnall) and had to drive past the picket lines on a daily basis. It certainly split friends , families and communities and of course the nation. I doubt I will ever go back either now my MIL is here in Herefordshire. Last time I went through Bulwell (2019) it all looked pretty depressing really.

Certainly a bad time for all involved. I was working for the NCB then as well.

Is there no end to your creativity, Cheery? Your use of colour and design is magic. I wish you could see the tiles on the mosques and tombs in Central Asia...you would love them.

How did you ever have time to work in a lab, Cheery, with so much creativity bursting out?

Thank you very much. It's just a doodle but your lovely, kind comments have really made me happy. I've accumulated a lot of materials and equipment over the years but it's only now that I'm having the opportunity to play. I still have the beautiful glass tiles that K sent me to use ...I'm planning to use them to decorate a glass vase.
