They were just learning to speak English then, but their love for Germany remained.

Wasn't the last German in the royal family Prince Albert? He died somewhere around 1860. Who loved Germany apart from Eddie the eighth?

Have you read nothing about the history of the British royal family? Their German blood runs deep, like it or not.

It would certainly be intresting to see how any of these people would do in an election. But they might not stand for office because they would be too busy counting their money.

I aleays read thst WW1 was a war between cousins.
By the way our royal family is still called Saxe Cobourg Gotha.
Leopold 1 was german and was first married to the only child of Georges IV who ruled UK until 1830. The great duke of Luxemburg is a direct descendant of Leopold (but who really cares ?).

Talking of that I’m just watching the second part of a programme about Prince Andrew. What a plonker.

George I was 100% German. And pre-dates Albert by 130 years I read. As far as I can work out Charles is an eighth German from Philip's side and a thirty second German from Elizabeth's side, so do you add them together then? So Charles is 5/32 German? Have you read nothing about the history of the British royal family? No, I haven't.

Poor old K. He loves sniping at us Brits because we have something to look up to with all the pageantry and history, while he has to bow down to a plonker like Macron

Judging by news photos lately, there is a lot more forelock-tugging going on in Britain than in France. And Macron was elected, he didn't inherit a warm throne.

Jeff recorded the Coronation concert on Sunday night. It's a fine state of affairs when the headline acts are Lionel Ritchie and Take That. We watched it this evening....it went something like this....
Artist is announced Jeff : who? Me : it's..er...I dunno dear...fast forward
We watched some bloke who sang very nicely whilst there was a drone show, Katy Perry (because of her dress) and Take That. Fast forwarded the rest...

There was much discussion and speculation regarding the fact that no big British stars accepted to perform. Most of our 'top acts' are either too old or contracted elsewhere (allegedly). There is little appetite for ostentatious shows atm, especially when it's seen as a huge display of wealth and power. Dangled in front of the masses 'WE'RE important...but not YOU...you can watch as a special treat' I think that at least some of the crowds in London on Saturday were just there for the party. There are still some staunch royalists (my sister Nicola for example, who also thinks that Boris was a good PM.....) but most of us are pretty indifferent. Apathy rules here now. Now Eurovision..that is much more fun...and inclusive.

During the current visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, I would say that the French opinion of them has gone up at least 200%, probably more. The main reason is almost certainly because he is not his mother. Protocol went out the window. The king shook hands with everybody and did not appear to mind being touched, the queen and Brigitte Macron kissed when they greeted each other. The royals have been acting like normal people, and one thing that they have done is to request things that were not on the agenda, such as a meeting with the PSG (Charles got a free jersey), and they spent a really long time at the Chanel workshops in Aubervilliers, much more than was planned. Camilla appeared to be completely mesmerized by a loom and could not walk away from it. (Brigitte was pretty much the same, or a good actress.) Even Emmanuel Macron seemed a bit impatient after awhile.
The visit to Notre Dame was another high point although they could not enter the building. Charles was fascinated by the explanations by the firemen and had trouble moving along.
Another last minute addition to the programme was a visit to the Natural History museum at the request of the king. He and Macron visited the giant botanical greenhouses while the press had to stay outside.
Tomorrow is the Bordeaux part of the trip with a visit to an organic vintner, but I'm sure that the king will find something extra to do.

Sounds like an ordinary state visit then. Similar to what happens in republics, though without the bowing and curtsying.

On the news there was a clip of Brigitte Macron and Camilla playing ping-pong. Camilla first played (badly) against some teenaged ping-pong champion, then she invited Brigitte to play. The diplomatic comment was that obviously Camilla hadn't had much practice.

It was a cute photo op, but it really wasn't the highlight of the day. In any case, I don't think that anybody had ever seen the Queen of England playing ping pong before.
Of course I immediately thought of useless Kate Middleton and how she just prances around doing nothing, just a royal Barbie doll with her equally useless and insipid Ken (William).
The French commentators were already regretting that that King Charles will be the last of the Windsors to speak French correctly. William is apparently terrible at French and no better at German.

I atually feel quite sorry for the Royals atm. The King is looking pretty peaky which isnt surprising, considering. Mind you, he won't have to wait 6 months for an out patient's appoinment with an NHS oncologist. Then Catherine, putting her feet up for a few months after 'abdominal surgery' issues a family pic on mothering Sunday and because it's been poorly edited sets off all sorts of conspiracy theories.
There are people outraged that a photo has been slightly tweaked...there's a whole generation of selfie-adicts editing out wrinkles and double chins...posting all over the web and nobody gives a stuff..but this particular photograph has been withdrawn by news associations because it's been edited.
The media hate the fact that this generation of Royals are taking their own photographs occasionally instead of posing for the newspapers. There is (allegedly) lots of speculation about what exactly is wrong with Catherine..not that I've seen anything....but then I don't read the tabloids.

Since nothing is real anymore, in France it has to be indicated on all fashion/beauty portraits if the image has been modified in any way. Unfortunately, small print is permitted.

As usual, the speculation mounts to such a frenzy that when the Royal chooses to speak about it, it’s almost anticlimactic. I can understand Kate and William wanting to shield their young children from anxiety resulting from classmates’ questions once the news was out, so they waited till spring break closed the school to fess up.
