For many years, Egyptians were unimpressed by Japanese food. But now they have changed their eating habits and are happy to eat sushi213.158.162.45/~egyptian/index.php?action=news&id=13042&title=SushiI'm no sushi expert, but I've eaten it at a couple of recommended places, one actually just down the road from where I live, and it tastes fine enough.

Already 150 sushi places in Cairo? That's not bad. I do remember eating in a Japanese restaurant in Cairo about 20 years ago, but we didn't have sushi. Back then most of such restaurants seemed to have been created to give the Japanese tourists a bit of gastronomic relief.
As much as I love sushi, we have just about reached our saturation point in Paris -- there are 2000 Japanese restaurants, and even in my own neighbourhood, there are 3 sushi places within a block of my flat (not forgetting that my neighbourhood is Indian-African-Chinese).

We could use a couple more here... that would bring the price down and raise the quality standard.
It's very easy to do your own though, so that's what I usually do.

It's true that 15 years ago, all of those places were quite expensive in Paris. Now there is a complete variety of prices depending on the sophistication of the restaurant -- but you can also buy sushi at the supermarket.

There is a brand of filling station here, can't remember which one but the cafe part is called 'On The Go', and they have sushi as well, though it's not a place I'd buy it from.

Hm. A cafe called "on the go" in a filling station.
How are the rest rooms?

I wouldn't know. I make a point of not going to any public toilets here except in 5 star hotels. Especially not after my first flight with Egypt Air and seeing what they were like after half an hour of the journey.

"On the Go" sounded familiar to me as one of the service station convenience stores among the major brands (Shell, BP, Mobil, etc.), but a Google search did not enlighten me. However, I did discover the existence of this wonderful all American place.

I can't remember the station either. I'll have a look as I drive past in the morning.
Nice American place that is. I'll see about visiting next time I'm over there.

There is a brand of filling station here, can't remember which one but the cafe part is called 'On The Go', and they have sushi as well, though it's not a place I'd buy it from. We once saw sushi offered at the convenience store associated with a filing station in suburban Memphis. (The one in Tennessee.) Sushi here in Mexico would be more attractive if they weren't so enamored with putting cream cheese in it. I have yet to lower myself. A notable cultural oddity is that in the Morelia sushi places we've observed, the patrons are given long chopsticks with which to eat it. I'd read that in Japan, sushi is eaten with the fingers. But the kids who flock to the Mikono sushi fast food bars are having fun, so I don't run over and tell them how culturally ignorant they are. ;D

I bought frozen sushi for the first time yesterday. Not sure when I will eat it yet. The idea of frozen sushi does not appeal to me, but I figure I have to try it at least once -- I have been proven wrong before with certain frozen items (but not ever frozen lasagna, which is an abomination!).

Frozen sushi! That's the first time I've ever heard it can be frozen - Somewhere or someone once told me it should never even be eaten icy cold but at room temperature. This I can see makes sense as very cold food doesn't seem to have all its flavour! Of course I know you intend to defrost it first Kerouac and am really interested to see if it passed the test!

As the weather gets warmer here,we find ourselves going out for sushi quite often. The perfect warm/hot weather food in my estimation aside from a large salad,my summertime staple. We have several very fine Japanese restaurants here in our neighborhood. One of them NINJA www.ninjasushineworleans.com/ is our local favorite. We went this past weekend and because one of our party is closely acquainted with the owner we were treated to a variety of different fish roe that weren't on the menu.It was heavenly.

Don, here in the UK, they all give you chopsticks to eat your sushi. And they were also handed over at the proper japanese restaurant in Geneva where I discovered that food. I personally don't know ... will have to check what the japanese do when I catch them in such places.

Yuka Kinoshita is a Japanese YouTuber famous for being able to consume monumental amounts of food -- and it is not faked because sometimes she does this on live television shows. I just saw a video where she ate 18 Big Macs in one hour, but since this thread is about sushi... eat your hearts out.
Turn on the subtitles if they are not automatic.

The videos of YouTube stars are monetized….
The best thing about that video for me is that it eliminated my craving for sushi for a little while. (I can get it whenever I want, but the cost often makes me decide that I don't really need it.)
