Unlike the big churches of Paris and the Grand Mosque, the principal synagogue of Paris is on a quite narrow street (rue de la Victoire) which most people will never see unless they make a point of going there. I would love to see the interior, but I do not feel like dealing with security at the moment, not to mention not having anything to put on my head.

Portuguese Baroque is just a bit on the exuberant side - as in these from Funchal Cathedral, Madeira: But note among all that the homely detail: Meanwhile, elsewhere on the island, the tomb of Karl, the last Austro-Hungarian Empire - now, for some reason, beatified - seems to attract particular devotion from Hungarian visitors: My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

Looks like the Counter-Reformation hit there too! Is Slovenia predominantly Catholic, Mark?

Schloss Ambras in Innsbruck, a former residence of a junior branch of the Hapsburgs who ran Tirol, houses a varied collection, among them several of these written "indulgences" - on appropriate payment to the relevant church authority, the bearer is granted remission of varying periods in Purgatory in relation to assorted sins (as my no doutb biased Protestant upbringing told me, or I think it did). Anyhoo, this is one of the things that set the Reformation in train: My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

Is there some way we can get the images back into this thread? I feel sad that we have lost so many beautiful things.

Some of you may be familiar with this Celtic Cross - erected in 1903 to commemorate Saint Dwynwen patron saint of lovers who lived on Anglesey on Ynys Llanddwyn where 1900 island was filmed

Looks old by our (USA) standards. Is the name Lugwardine tied to the name or the River Lugg?
