The reason the last leg of my flight back from Paris last summer was cancelled was because, by the time the replacement plane arrived, it was too late to ensure the local crew could fly us to Gainesville and then get enough sleep before resuming their flights the next day.
I seem to sleep much better on the nights when I don't have work In the morning.

That has happened to me plenty of times. While airline ground staff can be obliged to work 24 hours if necessary, it is absolutely and strictly forbidden for flight crews to work beyond a certain amount of time. Since there are some non stop flights that last up to 13 or 14 hours, that's already pretty scary in terms of flight safety. Singapore Airlines used to have a non-stop from Singapore to Newark that lasted 18 and a half hours, but they had extra crew that slept part of the way. But that flight was finally discontinued because it was too horrible of an ordeal for the passengers. Now that flight makes a stop in Tokyo to give everybody a break.

What made it more frustrating on our end was the fact our crew was freshly rested and just coming back on duty. However, it would have thrown off their scheduled flights the next day. It all worked out well for me in the end anyway.

After the demise of my laptop and now back to a desktop computer in another room I can say with 100% certainty that the lack of a screen in the bedroom has made my sleeping pattern far more satisfactory and healthy. With the laptop in the bed I was staying up very, very late watching movies and having to force myself to wake up at my regular "need to" time and, still tired, sleep deprived which led to over caffeinating myself etc.

All of the specialists say: no screens in the bedroom! I had a TV in my bedroom that I regularly fell asleep in front of but when the old TV signals were discontinued to give way to digital signals, that TV no long worked. So I suppose that I sleep better now. I now fall asleep to the radio with a timer.

I have to turn clocks slightly away and cover the blinking blue light on the sleeping laptop or I can't get to sleep.

Same here Kimby. I have caught myself checking my cell phone for the time and it really does have an effect on being able to go back to sleep. I now have a battery operated clock on the bedside table.

My husband bought me a new bedside clock that has a dock for my ipod, but the light is terribly bright and I have to cover it with cardboard. However, sometimes I just can't sleep, and my solution is similar to Keroauc's. I don't even own a television anymore, but I get one of my favourite tv shows going on my laptop on very low volume and drift off to sleep. If that doesn't work, beer often does.

Even as I am now sitting in front of the desktop I am aware of how it will effect my sleep, but, even more, the outside streetlight glare, which I could block out with the blinds, but, have kept open to welcome the Moon. Street lights also have an effect on the bloom time of certain plants, salvias, my passion, in particular.

We once lived in a house that had a streetlight right outside the bedroom window. (That ight kept getting shot out every time it was replaced.)

Sling shot? BB Gun? I never thought of you as the Annie Oakley type Kimby, but, somehow I'm not too surprised. I used to be an ace skeet shooter when I was around 16. Not too bad with a sling shot either.

Both, I think Casi. It happened several times. We had a guest who was good with a sling shot.

Yes, casi with a gun. I can see that! With the absence of an emoticon, I'm not quite sure where you're aiming. (Actually, I do, but for the sake of any new posters who don't "know" me, lest they think me a lunatic.... It's funny because one year for our neighborhood Mardi Gras event I costumed as "Annie Oak Street". Oak Street being the main street that the parade is held and headquartered. It was great fun...)

I HOPE no one thinks I was serious, that would be a disaster! (Why don't we have any fluffy bunny emoticons!)

I HOPE no one thinks I was serious, that would be a disaster! (Why don't we have any fluffy bunny emoticons!) Or, at the very least, "sick puppies", but, that could also be misinterpreted. Let me ponder this some more... (For the record, guns of any kind frighten me. For that matter, so do weapons of any kind save my very own vitriolic tongue, which, btw, my husband tells me will one day cause me to likely get shot...). BTW, I shared your post and the preceding sequence to and he did laugh. He has been privy to some of the posters on here, Kimby and others, I think I had told him of you. In other words, we had a hoot when I recited the flow it took.

casi, I appreciate your vitriolic tongue no end, as I have one as well. I'll always choose wit as my weapon in a duel!
I hate guns too. I'm not looking forward to July 4th on the Island, when everyone thinks it's great fun to fire their guns in the air like some Afghani wedding. The poor animals. Poor us.

Don't you think guns in the night are a source of insomnia?

Clearly humour never comes across on the internet even with a smiley. I did have a small hope, since I am the king of off-topic posting, but it has been dashed.

It was the big grin in your post that tipped me off to the benign sarcasm/irony/whatever.

Whatever that means... If I ever an unable to post spontaneously, with no fear of retribution or chastisement, f'n count me out. I strive not to offend anyone, and love the impromptu responses, but, F'it, if it's going to mean some terms of censoring of what comes off the top of my head. No forum life for me. I refuse to disregard my right to perseverate, obsess, and not be able to post spontaneously my sentiments regarding an OP.
If you want to lay down some "ground rules" as an administrator, then kindly say so. I feel I deserve that modicum of respect. Merci.

Thanks mark for that bit of comic relief. After a verbal jousting match between beloved strangers, how is anyone supposed to get to sleep tonite?

It's so easy to forget how easy it is on the internet to take something in a way it was not intended. With or without emoticons. Sarcasm and irony go right over my head sometimes, and I suspect others', too.
I do feel our admin was rather too harsh with our dear friend Casimira. My 2 cents worth.

Thank you Kimby. You have always been kind and a voice of reason so to speak. I did post out of turn and ran like a rabbit because, I always felt this was a place of refuge that I could express myself freely. Everyone has their own tolerance point, and, I likely overstepped mine.
