What an outstanding memory for you, Huckle! It is sad to read all the obituaries and news articles and to realize how much she must have physically suffered in the last four years. Here is a nice article which includes a few videos. Her Ave Maria is soaring: heavy.com/entertainment/2019/09/jessye-norman-dead/Another musical exit -- José José died Saturday. I remember two of his songs so well, as they were immensely popular when I first moved here: Llora Corazón and Mujeriego. When I think back to that time, those songs are the soundtrack. www.npr.org/2019/09/30/765653356/jos-jos-the-prince-of-song-dies-at-age-71This video is a hoot. Mujeriego means womanizer ~

Although she's on many albums I have,I had the fortune of seeing her on stage only once in Alceste at Chicago's Lyric Opera. She arrived on stage, the hall was hers. Never have I been in the presence of an opera singer who so fully filled the stage with her personage and the auditorium with her music. I actually saw her performance of the Marseillaise that year because I was a guest of the president for the only time in my life.

The husband of one of my colleagues was François Mitterrand's bodyguard and she got me invitations to the Elysée garden party and also a bleacher seat for the special Jean-Paul Goude nighttime artistic parade, which was the event for which J. Norman sang.

yes, I saw that parade, but on TV, in a village near Pontoise, with friends. It was magnificent, and especially her powerful rendition.

On another note, Ginger Baker, the drummer of bands like Cream, died age 80. I found this video with Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker from 1968.

Marie Fredriksson. Half of the duo of Roxette. I saw them at least 3 times on stage and fell in love with my wife dancing on their music.

Then it is kind of sad, whereas I never knew the names of the members and probably would never have been tempted to see them on stage.

You’re welcome. Just returning the favor. You’ve called my attention to my similar error in the pretty recent past.
Incidentally, Ravi Shankar would be 100 years old this year!

The New Zealand singer Graeme Allwright died yesterday in France at age 93. He had moved into a retirement home for performing artists a year ago. He moved to France in the 1970's (after writing songs against the French nuclear tests!) and was mostly known for making French adaptations of songs by Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

Pearl Carr died a few days ago at the age of 98. She and her late husband and singing partner Teddy Johnson had a long career in broadcasting and variety shows, and started a sort of tradition for the UK by coming second in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1959. Something about that song's over-perkiness just about sums up the 1950s. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Thanks for posting that Kimby. I had meant to post it yesterday when I heard.
I'm not a huge fan of contemporary jazz, although, there are some exceptions.
I had the great privilege of hearing Mr. Tyner perform in a small venue when I was living in Saint Louis circa 1974/5.
It was a memorable show.
