You may not know his name - I didn’t - but you’ve probably enjoyed his music. www.guitarworld.com/news/legendary-muscle-shoals-guitarist-pete-carr-dies-aged-70“As the lead guitarist for the famed studio band, Carr contributed to hits including Simon’s Kodachrome, Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night and Seger’s Mainstreet – that’s him playing the song’s iconic electric guitar lead. Carr also played with Joan Baez, Cat Stevens, Donovan, Luther Ingram, Joe Cocker, Boz Scaggs, the Staple Singers, Barbra Streisand, Wilson Pickett, José Feliciano and Hank Williams, Jr., among many others.”

That's extremely impressive!
I know this is off the subject, but it's weird watching that video in the obituary link because Simon and Garfunkel are so determinedly not looking at each other.

I don't think that the death of Johnny Mandel (age 94) was mentioned. He died on June 29. Among his compositions were "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "Suicide is Painless."

J.J. Lionel, a Belgian singer whose name none of us know, had a hit that went (unfortunately?) around the world in every European language and also Japanese. He died yesterday at age 72.

Oh gosh. I remember rushing out of any place that played that music. Would have worked better than torture on me. My godmother bought the plate...

I remember that as well. A bit ashamed to say that it was very popular here. Yes, it was always seen as "Quétaine" (kitsch, ringard) but like that Belgian crowd, people had fun with it.

I certainly won't click on that video. We used to have really obnoxious neighbours who partied a lot in summer and sometimes I would get woken to the sound of that about 2 am. Just awful.

Of course I didn't know she was still alive and died so recently.

I don't think anybody in France thought she was still alive. When people like that (wisely) retire, people completely forget them after about 5 years and just assume that they are dead if they have not been in the news for any reason.

And yes, her haircut was very chic on her. (Yes, a very superficial comment, but these days I'm just waiting for a chance to have my hair cut. My hairdresser seems to be all booked up).

Mr. Kimby has a cherry sunburst Trini Lopez Gibson guitar that he played in a rock band in his youth. He’ll be crushed when he hears the news.
BTW his band was called The Plague, and their business cards said “The Spreading Sound of the Plague”
Kinda ironic, considering the cause of death....

Oh shoot. She is beloved here. Dynamic fun and nice. Hardworking too. And not an ounce of arrogance. She will be all over the news obviously. She had been anoblished by our king, yes we still do that.

Yes, I liked her too. Talented and unpretentious. We don't call it that, but there are similar awards from the "Governor General" - a colonial holdover, but mostly ceremonial.
It seems the pompiers found her, and she had died of a heart attack.
My honorary mamie died in bed like that at 102. (Actual maternal one died giving birth to twins, not much older than 40). Sadly that was common back then.
