A big one. Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones has drummed his last paradiddle.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. There were intimations that something was wrong when he cancelled out of the No Filter tour. And recent pictures showed that, in the words of a Stones song, "man, did he look pretty ill". Still, I doubt I'm the only person who is thinking this right now: Singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading wrote: "Why am I crying? Because Charlie Watts has died. Who knew that any of the Rolling Stones musicians would ever leave this earth." sourceDamn.

80 years old! With the lifestyle those guys had they should have floated off by age 40. Goodbye Charlie, thanks for keeping the others in order and thanks for laying down the beat of my youth.

Love the Joan Armatrading quote. Thanks Bixa.
Despite having survived throat cancer, during which he never missed a gig while under treatment and his addiction to heroin, he served as a model of resilience throughout his entire career. Who cares that he was 80? He weathered it all with humility and is a shining example of how age made him even more of a legend in so many ways.

The amazing thing about his being 80 was that he was still active with the Stones.

This death really saddens me. I loved his music and could lose myself in it. Once I was pulled over for exceeding the speed limit on an almost entry 4 lane road. I apologised and explained I was listening to Zorba's Dance and my car seemed to increase speed by itself. He laughed and said he was listening himself so let me off with a warning...play slower music!

Considering the huge Greek community in Australia, I'm sure this must have been a major event.

I am not sure if many on here have heard about " Girls Aloud" .. it was a UK girl band created out of a UK reality TV programme. A band that my children loved ,after the TV show the band went on to produce many hit songs and lasted for about 10 years as a group.
RIP Sarah Harding; just 39 years old ,

During dinner tonight You Tube suddenly switched onto old time hits. It was really memorable especially when "Bad Moon Rising" belted out. That reminded us of a discotheque we had. Playing at parties and special events and me and the other two girls dressed in tight white jumpsuits and showing our moves as Go-Go dancers. Then another section came on showing all singers with hits but had died tragic early deaths. I am astounded at the number of 20-30 year olds who died of drug overdoses like heroine. Then in the 70's the number who died in plane crashes. The next shock was the number of 25-35 yr olds who committed suicíde by shooting themselves or being shot by someone else.
Who knew the 70's were so wonderfully musical but also so tragic.

Sad to imagine, but some of them probably did their best work in their short lives. If they had lived to our ages, they might have been doing crap all of the rest of the time. I can certainly think of more than a few who have done that.

Our priest made a great speech about short lives that leave a mark. My in law, as a counter example, lived to close to 90 and is already forgotten.

Le grand Jojo is dead. A typical belgian, actually brusseleer, he was associated with family parties. We would say ringard, kind of has been, absolutely not subtle but if you don't play one of his 'songs' at a wedding, then, yes, something is missing.

Yes, I read that on the net. Jojo's fame did not extend to France (except maybe the Hauts de France?), but as you know we have plenty of the same type of performer here.
