Hearing the radio play over and over again Staying Alive,( as if it was the only music he ever wrote or performed ,somehow I missed that Donna Summer had died as well) I was immediately transported to my days in NYC which coincided with the Studio 54 era. Night after night one would see the same people lining up to try to get into that place....and over and over leaving dejectedly and going back again the next night to try again. What ever were they thinking? Anyway, it was a pleasant enough memory. The BeeGees earlier stuff featured more prominently in my memory bank.

Peter Jones, the drummer of Crowded House, has also died. He had brain cancer. Different generation from these others: age 45.
The previous drummer committed suicide in 2005...

I love Doc Watson. Since I snoozed and missed the South:
The photos are reminding me more of New Jersey, though.
(I think since Doc was blind that we can forgive him for thinking catfish can jump.)

I think my father had this album. Kitty Wells. Women singers used to get to dress modestly.

Hey ~~ good call on their part! It seems they did report his death on the 8th, as well. Here's the cover story -- thanks for alerting me to it. Some great pics in the article. But this is kind of sad. It's on facebook's Mighty, Mighty New Orleans Dead Friends Society's page: If you wish to donate to the "Uncle" Lionel Memorial Fund to assist the family with medical and funeral expenses go to www.Treme2012.com and press "Donate" or visit any Liberty Bank and Trust Branch (www.LibertyBank.net). Donations can also be mailed to: "Uncle" Lionel Memorial Fund, c/o Liberty Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 60131, New Orleans, LA 70160-0131(not surprisingly, the Treme site is really cool) Lola ~~ did Kitty Wells die???! Oh yeah -- didn't mean to ignore Jon Lord. It's just that I tried to listen to the video last night when I saw the post, & quickly remembered how much I wish that organ music didn't exist.

I've heard of funerals postponed because of rain. My grandmother & my great-aunt, both born in 1899, would tell of the flu years of 1918--19 in Louisiana, which were also years of great rains. My grandmother said that coffins would float as they were lowered in their graves. And my aunt, a treasure house of macabre stories, told of coffins popping out of the ground in saturated cemeteries. But you didn't mention the REAL first of that funeral ~~ !

Very BIZARRE. I would have freaked if I walked into that. (I thought Ernie K. Doe's wake was strange enough, That would have done me in.)

Looking good, Uncle L!
I feel this beats lying surrounded by faux satin and appearing to say the rosary with your eyes closed.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chavela_VargasAdmittedly in her later years she was one of those artists who more spoke the words than sang, but still she was Chavela Vargas. I'm not sure, but I think this version was recorded when she was in her 80s. I adore it. This one as well:
