He only had one concert date in France on this tour, at the Cahors Blues Festival on July 14th.
My usual daily newspaper had a major interview with him on the 13th, which already implied that the end was near. Being an albino, he already had eye problems most of his life, but he was also just about completely blind in recent years.

I only learned of Johnny Winter's passing yesterday evening. I guess being on holiday with no radio, TV, internet etc. is the reason for this. A true legend. R.I.P. Johnny.

I just spent 20 minutes trying to post an obit on here and the new format squelched my efforts. In any event, a local musician and personal friend of mine passed recently from an apparent heart attack at age 53. Johnny Ray Allen. original member of The Subdudes, previously posted on here. A bass player, and member of several local bands who had a good run both on the national and international circuit at one time.

If only the Proboards new format would allow me to post one of their songs to be appreciated, I would feel better. It's all about the music and should be allowed to give due respect.

Bless your heart Kerouac. While this was one of their signature tunes, and, they toured with Bonnie Rait, the clip you posted was it seems during one of Johnny's hiatuses(sp?), ironically enough and he is not featured. Ha!! But, thank you!! I'll work on trying to master a better one. A bass player, IMHO, is the pulse of a good band, and Johnny had that down.

Cosimo Matassa, New Orleans legendary musical producer, sound engineer, responsible for the launching and early recordings of such musical giants from Fats Domino, Lil' Richard, Ray Charles, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John and many, many others. He was 88 years old. Thank you Cosimo.

Oh! Talk about a cornerstone of the musical industry. Thanks for posting, Casimira.
Also, missed seeing the news of Johnny Allen's death -- very sorry to hear that.

Thanks for that Bixa.
The day after Bob Crewe passed, Terri Gross did a re-run of an interview she did with him not too too long ago. (I know it was after Jersey Boys came out). Anyway, you are so right about the earworms!!!! It brought back a flood of memories for me. My oldest brother played the Four Seasons 45's all the time. I also have a vivid memory of being stuck at the top of a Ferris wheel at the Fireman's Fair circa 1964, and "Big Girls Don't Cry" blaring over the sound system. Also, the treatment of "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" being a prominent tune in a couple of scenes in the movie The Deer Hunter (my first date with my husband).

Totally forgot about CTMEOoY being in Deer Hunter. That's a movie I think I need to see again, although on an emotionally strong day.

I'm new to this thread, and I wonder if Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul and Mary was mentioned. I met her once, after a concert in Columbia, MO.

Don, Mary Travers died in September 2009. It was posted before this thread existed. I recall you having said that you met her. I think the thread was R.I.P Mary Travers.

I may be mistaken, but for some reason I believe that the song "Kicks" by Paul Revere and the Raiders was the first 45 that I ever bought. Paul Revere (official name: Paul Revere Dick) died on October 4th at the age of 76. The group Paul Revere & the Raiders was from Idaho, which is already pretty unusual.

Jack Bruce, Bass Player and Songwriter of the band CREAM, age 71. He also contributed to many other musicians from Jimi Hendrix to David Bowie.
(I have tried 4 times to post my favorite Cream song BADGE, but, because of this new system I have been unsuccessful in doing so. So, rather than ruin my day if some kind soul could do it, I would be really grateful. Thank you.)

Oh, I saw that, too, but I was wondering if anybody even remembered Cream.
I think I will stick with Sunshine of Your Love as my favourite, though. Banal, yes.

Thanks Kerouac. When I heard the announcement on the news they played Sunshine of Your Love. So,you are not alone. And, not at all banal. I just have a special affinity for Badge. It is a great song but one of those songs that just fell prey to overplay.
The first time I ever heard CREAM, I thought, JEEZ,this is the coolest music I've ever heard. They have always remained one of my nostalgic favorites of that era.

Manitas de Plata died 3 days ago at age 93. Considered one of the finest flamenco guitarists in history, he was born in a gypsy caravan in Sète, France. He played Carnegie Hall for the first time in 1965 and sold more than 93 million albums during his career.
