This year's Cannes Film Festival has been moved from May to July due to the pandemic. Obviously, it was cancelled last year. I hope that it will not cast a shadow over the Tokyo Olympics or the Tour de France.

The world has become so strange that one wonders if this year's winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin film festival is a sign of the times.

In France, there are more than 400 movies backed up waiting for release because they don't want to go straight to streaming or video.

Even though it looks like it is going to be pretty much identical, I do not disapprove of Spielberg's desire to get completely different generations to discover a totally old fashioned story and music style. Juqt imagine -- he could have made it into a rap movie.

I am quite pleased that Yulia Peresild has become the first actress to be able to make a movie in space. I was not happy at all with Tom Cruise's arrogant plan. Maybe he will abandon it now.

Disney's Encanto tops the box office in the United States, but what is interesting is that the #2 country is France, followed by Colombia where the movie is set. France has always been the second market of Disney films after the United States when one could have imagined a country like the United Kingdom in that position. But France has always had a great love of Disney movies, both animated and live.

I am anxiously awaiting the release of The Tragedy of MacBeth which stars Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington (both favorite actors of mine).

Just read a review of PETITE MAMAN, a French film featuring twin sisters playing a daughter and her own mother at the same age and at the same time, interacting with each other as friends and playmates, while the grown-up mother sorts through the possessions left behind by her own mother, who has recently died.
It sounds interesting, but will likely be unavailable to me. Have you seen it K2?

The world premiere event took place in Paris yesterday. Ridley Scott was extremely nervous about this, but it felt obligatory to him due to the subject matter. The main praise from the French was that Joséphine was not overlooked, as she usually is.

We visited Josephine’s house in Martinique.
I don’t think I will go see the movie. I have read countless books about Waterloo and self appointed me expert. I fear a US movie on it will disappoint me.

The movie version lasts 2h40 and the streaming version is supposed to last 4 hours.
One thing that irritates me ahead of time is that Joaquin Phoenix is 49 years old but Napoléon was already a hero at age 24. I would like to see a young actor in the role.

The main praise from the French was that Joséphine was not overlooked, as she usually is. The reviews I read gave the actress playing her high marks, but what I saw in the trailer was that she seemed to be whispering all her lines.I have read countless books about Waterloo and self appointed me expert. One review pointed out some of the historical discrepancies. I caught one myself in the trailer, which shows Marie Antoinette with long hair going to the guillontine. Not only is it improbable that Napoleon witnessed her death, there is a quite famous drawing of her after having her hair cut preparatory to being executed. The movie version lasts 2h40 and the streaming version is supposed to last 4 hours. Really?! Why is that?Joaquin Phoenix is 49 years old but Napoléon was already a hero at age 24. I would like to see a young actor in the role. That's a very good point. From what I've read, Phoenix does work well in the role, but he's obviously a middle-aged man, whereas the same lines spoken by an actor of a more accurate age would be of an entirely different import, I would think. (Napoleon died aged 51 -- just looked it up.)
