My tiny dill plants are still alive, even in freezing weather. They're sturdier than I thought.

You do know that dill is an annual, K, and isn't terribly hardy? I plant dill every 2 weeks in the summer as it goes to seed so quickly. A rosemary will last for years; dill, a few months at best. I'm curious as how the Parisian dill saga will end...

So, this weekend I put down seeds of the following: larkspur (the remaining seeds I forgot to put in earlier), candytuft, nasturtiums, nigella, more dill and cilantro along with parsley.
I know I'm forgetting something.
Ah, poppies!

Oh, exciting! I have a bunch of old seed packets, some whose sell-by date was 2014, so I planted on the 8th and 9th: moonflower, cucuzza, parsley, eggplant, shiso, basil (red rubin & dark opal), nasturtium, alyssum, and okra. The okra & alyssum appear to be emerging!
The okra is a Burpee hybrid called Baby Bubba, supposedly ideal for containers.
edited to add that I also planted datura seeds from my mother's yard.

I've gotten plants from old half empty seed packets stuck in the back of a junk drawer years after commonsense would indicate they should no longer be viable. Feels like a free lunch to me when it happens.

I don't know where I read this, but it said the attrition rate for most seeds is 10% annually, so as long as you have enough seeds and they're not decades old, you should get something.

I have fancied but never followed through with the idea of just tossing all the ones that I have into an open area and see what comes up.

That would probably work really well in a moist climate & you could control what you let stay and even naturalize.
Some of the stuff I planted is coming up. I'm really excited!
