a few touristy pics from my last trip to France in 2008: Nice harbor: Double rainbow from our hotel in Marseille ( Mercure ): Iles du Frioul and Chateau d'If (islands outside of Marseille Vieux Port) Notre-Dame de la Garde (Marseille) Marseille cityscape after a rain w/ Notre-Dame de la Garde in the distance Vallon des Auffes on the corniche (Nice) A small marina on Iles du Frioul looking toward Vieux Port in Marseille Man at cafe in Avignon (loved the hat and coat) I have some more but they aren't hosted yet...these were just a few off of my Flickr page. As you guys know, I'm leaving for France in about four weeks. I can't wait to share a few more pics when I return. ;D

Fantastic array, Thill -- I love your photos. Hey, get your excitement level up for your trip by sharing some more of these pics with us! FMT's latest post has gotten me ready to leave tomorrow! I'll see what I can dig up. I have some stuff from Normandy in 2005...and this trip from Southern France in 2008. This year we are doing Alsace and Lorraine...with a dash of Germany. I'll have plenty to share since I bought a new camera in November. ;D

Those are beautiful views of Marseille, which is far too often neglected by visitors.

Thank you Thill…not sure where these photos were taken, but it seems that Kerouac thinks it is Marseilles? Doesn’t matter, I love the boats. The final photo of the old sea faring man is beautiful!
( would love to visit Marseilles)

I recognize the first five as being Marseille and the last one as Avignon, so that would put the small craft harbour in Nice.

I added some captions for you guys...sorry about that...just being lazy and I honestly didn't think anyone would care about pics from 2008. Thanks for all the positive feedback!

Wonderful pictures, all. I'm not sure why photos taken in 2008 would be any less interesting than ones taken more recently. In fact I doubt any of us would know the difference without being told.

Brought back memories! Very nice.
I once stayed in Marseille for 4 months, right on the Vieux Port. I really liked it. And La Cannebiere must be one of the little great avenues in France.
What I did notice was that there was a lot of dog shit around, I suppose that's gone now.

Nice photos of Marseille thill. I haven't been yet but I'm looking forward to it someday. First I have to explore a few hundred more unknown villages. I bet you're getting France fever right about now. I forget if I asked already but where are you visiting in France?

I bet you're getting France fever right about now. I forget if I asked already but where are you visiting in France? Thanks! My wife and I have the fever reaaaaalllll bad. We're staying in Troyes, Metz, Nancy, Strasbourg, and Paris (Montparnasse). We're hoping to visit some villages and towns along the way since we'll be driving. I know for sure we are going to visit Provins, Verdun, and Colmar.

You can never visit or return to as many places as you would like. It is both irritating and one of the motors for future trips.

You can never visit or return to as many places as you would like. It is both irritating and one of the motors for future trips. There's never enough time. Actually, we totally restructured our itinerary because we were being overzealous. I still think we are biting off more than we can chew in a few areas, but it will give us a reason to return.

Do you know why your wife did not care for Marseilles?

Some people discover that Marseille is much more African than they expected, and that is not always what they want. I think it is delightful.

Well, she said she didn't feel safe and she said it was dirty. I think she was just mad because it rained. ;D
Thanks cheery!
