So Dior fires John Galliano for drunken apparent antisemitic mini rant. Fair enough, I guess.
But now France can prosecute? Seems extreme.

I'm assuming they have hate laws on the books.

Yes, there are hate laws, but I don't think that they would cover a private conversation in a café. However, you can always count on some politicians and other media figures to try to surf the wave of public indignation.

I think it would be better to simply make a laughing stock of the guy. Here we have a flaming gay man celebrating Hitler and Nazism. I don't expect fashion designers to be historians, but frankly, how on earth can he not know about the pink triangle Nazis made gays wear and their extermination - after humiliation - in death camps. Silly, silly boy.

It's a shame that other people with totally extravagant lifestyles who think that there are no rules that apply to them (pop stars, movie stars, eccentric artists...) don't really pay attention to the news for the most part, because they could learn something if they did.

Re: not knowing about Nazi persecution of gay people -- whether or not a person knows that his or her particular group, religion, whatever was targeted in a given situation, it should be enough to know that any group, religion, whatever was targeted.

These people don't even know that there was a war in the 1940's.... or 50's.... or 60's.

I think that everybody has prejudices, but simple prejudice is something that most of us manage to keep under control. This drunken outburst was particularly vile imo.

Not only did Galliano act and speak in a reprehensible manner, but he was wearing headgear blatantly in homage to Moammar Gadhafi.

Hi, sorry to post and then drop out-- balky computer and then balky work schedule.
Love the video, K2.
I can't defend his statements or his choice of headgear.
